A strong sequel that doesn't suffer from middle book syndrome like so many other second books in a trilogy.

The story is off to a slow start and feels a little less exciting because we find ourselves back in a Hunger Games arena but the novelty of the concept has worn off a bit.

However the competitors are far more interesting and the growing tensions and revolutionary energy in the districts are compelling as well.

Okay, if I thought the last one was amazing, this one is on a whole different level!! I was hooked from the first sentence, and really didn’t want to put the book down!

Most of this review will have spoilers, so if you haven’t read it, don’t read the rest of this!

Spoiler I couldn’t believe it when Katniss was re-entered into the games - I mean the situation was bad enough for her as it was, with President Snow coming and threatening her in person, and the constant threat of being watched, and not being able to live her own life… but then for the Capitol to make past victors re-compete - and her having only competed last year, was unspeakably cruel. I also understand her confusion in her feelings towards Gale and Peeta now - and see the difficulties that she faces in that, but I still wish that she would recognise how much she loves Peeta - and that it is different to the way she loves Gale! But maybe I’ll get that in book three! I also really enjoyed the relationship between those in the games this time round - the fact that they all knew each other and worked together - which would normally have been impossible, had they not been staging an uprising!! I can’t wait to read the next one!!
