I really liked the story, bought and the characters. I listened to this book I have to say that I really did not enjoy the Narrator . He was constantly sniffing his nose and while I think it was supposed to be the character I found it very distracting from the story and difficult to listen to. It was like Nails on a chalkboard for me and it took away from the story. I don’t think I won’t listen to another one instead, I will read them. It is unfortunate because I think this is the perfect book to listen to to take my mind off of household chores.

While still not my favorite of the series by any stretch having read the rest of the series adds a lot to the world that at this point is understandably not fleshed out. I enjoyed listening to James Marster’s amazing performance and Jim Butchers wonderful humor, references and wit.

Cool and fun! :D Sadly my library doesn't have the following books, so I'll only make slow progress in this long series.

well that was interesting.

im writing this review after having finished the audiobook and having read the book a few times. this book is a fairly good start to a interesting series and does a good job of setting up the world and the central characters.

one of my favourite elements in this book was the sheer amount of sarcasm the main character used in relation to the situations he was in. this mostly came from the ithoughts of the main character. the sarcasm was about a lot of different things, ranging from the situation the main character found himself in to observations and comments on characters. the world the series was was set in was also fun. even though at this point the white council has not been introduced and a few things like that, this book did a good job of setting the world up as well as the magical system.

my only real complaint was that the book left a lot of threads hanging. these ranged from things as simple as what is the white council to things such as is there more to gentleman Marconi then you are lead to believe. this was a small problem though and didn't really affect the rating.

overall a fun first book to a great series. would highly recommend this to urban fantasy or just someone looking for a fun fantasy novel.

Disclaimer: Listened to the audio book.

Good read, though Harry's propensity for being shocked that he's getting into horrible situations and then getting out of them unscathed got a little tiring. The world is intriguing and the writing/audio kept me interested through the book. I'm not tripping over myself to get to the next book in the series, but I'll probably read/listen to it.

I had a lot of fun with this book, but I really don't see myself reading 20 of those mysteries to finish the series. I think Jim Butcher spices things up, but idk. I'll definitely give it another try once the ebook for fool moon is on sale.
I also know that the fans say it takes some books to get really good.
Ill leave it a 3 stars for now.
