CHECK CONTENT WARNINGS BEFORE READING!!! this book is so incredibly sad and so many effed up  things happen it’s unreal. I can’t tell if the commentary in this book is valuable or obnoxious.

This is my favorite book of all time. It follows the life journey of Dolores as she navigates trauma, relationships, body image, and growing up.

As a mentally ill fat girl, you know I had to pick this book up. It was incredibly dark but a definite page-turner for me. It felt fairly dated in how it handled topics such as gayness, fatness, and race. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending; I was hoping for a little more catharsis after everything the book put me through.

This book was clearly radical and progressive in it's time, but I think it's pretty dated now. The discussion of trauma is poignant and very human and raw, but the plot does revolves around some decenly fat-phobic & outdated concepts.
