Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Graphic Novel by Seth Grahame-Smith

On paper this seems like something I would like, seeing as I like Pride and Prejudice and graphic novels. However, I am ambivalet on zombies (aka unmentionables), and I think this was the crux of the problem I had with this P & P remix.

When I first started it, I hated it and thought, "One star review coming up." It seemed very one-note, like they just stuffed P & P full of violence and brain-eating zombies and were like, "This is it, this is the whole thing." The cover was amazing, but otherwise the art wasn't my jam. It's black and white and a lot of the characters looked so alike to me I had trouble knowing who was who.

I won't lie, though, it was good when the zombies where being chopped up, beheaded, and skewered, and there were a few funny scenes. It grew on me a little bit. Two stars!

Similar to some of the other reviews, I hated the drawings. I had such a hard time telling characters apart because so many of them looked the same. If you're going to make a graphic novel should at least hire someone who knows how to draw.

The illustrations are fantastic, although I had a difficult time telling some of the secondary characters apart.

I can't believe I waited so long to read PPZ: The Graphic Novel. It was fantastic.

I bought this book to read on a plane trip to California. It was definitely entertaining. I found it hilarious how a lot of the storyline was the same, they would just throw zombies in randomly. It totally doesn't go with the plot or time era at all, but somehow it works.

Overall, I really liked it. Great adaption, witty, but that's what I had been expecting, I feel it lived up.

Having drawn quite a bit, I really appreciated the artwork. I didn't mind the lack of color, but I found it simultaneously puzzling and intriguing that the work was left so raw-preliminary sketches and reworking clearly visible in many of the images. I did enjoy the shading and depth ava thought it really brought something to narrative. I've seen reviews indicating readers couldn't tell characters apart, but I feel like they must not be looking very closely as I was surprised at how recognisable the characters actually were, despite consistent and frequent wardrobe changes.

One draw back I think was that the tongue-in-cheek humor went a bit far in spots- Elizabeth Bennett stripped to her garters and an awkward line about Mr. Darcy's (musket) balls. It started to toe the line of incredulous considering the story is still set in an age of extreme modesty.

Overall, a good read and I would probably read again.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Graphic Novel is an enjoyable read. A few notes:

a. Unless one has read the original story or Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the novel they might find the graphic novel confusing. The storyline is a bit abrupt and jumps from one scene to the next.

b. At times it is confusing which characters are speaking. The five Bennett sisters are a tad bit to similar, especially when reading larger dialogue scenes (i.e. ones taking place at dances between five or six people).

All that aside, I found P&P with a zombie twist once again an extremely enjoyable read and outside the somewhat similar characters, I thought the artwork was beautiful.

Not impressed with the art in this one. I'd stick with the print version instead.

Not my cup of tea. Don't really care for zombies all that much, and reading this version just made me miss the original story.
