This is a debut?! Amazing world building that was concise and intriguing! I finished this book in 24 hours I could not stop! This book was golden retriever mmc done right! Amazing characters that you will fall in love with! Some books are plot driven, some are character driven. Somehow Darkness Comes Again does both in only 300 pages! Amazing amazing amazing. Can’t wait for book 2!

There are books that you devour and blow through, then there are those that you savor so that you can enjoy every last moment. This, was one I savored. K.M. Davidson has developed my new favorite fantasy world. For fans of Throne of Glass and Lord of the Rings, I would highly recommend Darkness Comes Again. Honestly, I would recommend this book to any reader as it takes the tropes, characters, and feelings that we know and shines an entirely new light on them.

In this world, readers are introduced to various levels of magic users including one of our main characters Reva. Reva lives her life as the apprentice of a great healer until she is called into the palace to help heal a young prince. At this point, the novel picks up speed faster than nearly any deep fantasy I can recall. I adored every last word of this novel and even more so loved seeing the character relationships that develop between Reva, the prince, the princess, a guard and others. I loved that there was a different twist on the balance of magic and how the royals were handling it (can you tell I'm trying to avoid any and all spoilers? Please just go read this for yourself).

I can't even begin to express what a joy this book was to read and more so HOW I NEED THE REST OF THE SERIES.

☆ Minor Spoilers ☆

I think the premises of the story is good and interesting, I'm definitely curious to see where the story goes.
The writing style flows easily and it could definitely be considered a fast read...but that could also be because of the dialogue? Which I've found to be a bit too much. Too much talking, which sublimely morphed into repetition in my opinion. Unfortunately I didn't find the dialogue to be...well organized. I found it a bit immature here and there, and I was confused about certain verbiage, it sounded a bit too modern for a fantasy book, which sometimes can work, but most of the times it just doesn't fit right (my opinion). Also, the main female character had to repeat herself by saying the same thing over and over again a few times.
I think the dialogue took a bit away from the plot, as I didn't really feel the essence of it that well. There is plot, don't get me wrong, but I feel like it was overpowered by the dialogue.

The characters were alright. I didn't feel a strong connection, but I didn't disliked them either. I like the fact that yes, there was conversation between characters, but there wasn't any frustrating misscomunication, so that was good. I didn't see any fun and witty banter to add to some of the characters personality, but I'll wait, the series is has just started. 😅 The conversations between them just flowed normally, so that's why I probably didn't feel any "sparks". As for someone hating on "magics", I think Pax character was well done. I could definitely feel his reactions and his hatred for the magics pour out of him.
Reva was friendly and ready to do whatever it takes for the job that she got employed for. However, I didn't like the character growth as much, because for someone who's been hiding a secret, she was way too quick and easy to trust someone she's only known for a short amount of time (Fin in this case). Especially after she's been told by her foster mother to be careful.
Fin....sounded fun at first, nice guy, but then you discover that altough he is a nice guy, he's not courageous. I've found his character to be spineless and weak, not standing up for what is right. I didn't feel his attraction to Reva, and found the training scene unnecessary, especially since she did not reciprocate the same feelings towards him.
Also the fact that the King was so informal in private, and that Reva didn't held back  complaining about the abusive, rude knights, threw me off a bit. I just didn't expect a conversation with the King to go that way....😅 (maybe that's just me).

Like I said, I think the story is interesting. I would like to know more about the Sirians, but I must admit that towards the end there was a bit of overload of information and I had to focus for a minute to grasp what was going on. I will probably continue reading the series, because I like to show my support to the indie author, and I'm curious to see where the story goes.

THIS BOOK. THIS. BOOK. OMG. Honestly I first read it because of the cover (which is gorgeous) and I went in blind, only knowing it was fantasy with romance. I was not expecting to completely fall in love with this story and its characters. From the very start I was hooked and couldn't put it down.

Our FMC Reva is a badass and I want to be her. I loved following her story and ALL of her interactions were amazing. THE SIDE CHARACTERS!?!?! I live for that. Found family was exquisite in this book. Also the writing was beautiful and fully transported me into the book.

100% recommend, go read this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ending left me needing to know what will happen and very curious about certain things

**Full disclosure: I was gifted an early copy of Darkness Comes Again. I am in no way being paid for/or otherwise influenced for a review. This review is wholly my own opinion.**
I’m actually kicking myself for taking so long reading this but I was genuinely enjoying it so much that I didn’t want it to end.

Darkness Comes Again is a really fantastic debut novel. I seriously couldn’t put it down. The world building is unique, and I love the magic system. The characters are also all very likable (with the exception of those we’re not meant to like, of course).

Set in a world where Magics, and especially Sirians, are looked upon with disgust and fear, Reva works to understand who and what she is. I really enjoyed Reva as a character, despite some of her more frustrating moments. I loved getting to see her open up as the story progressed, sometimes without her even realizing it. Her relationship with Fin is complicated but cute. Their dynamic is great, and Fin makes for a great MMC. I also really loved Clint, the young prince suffering from a mystery illness that Reva is brought in to treat and cure. He’s a really fun and sassy kid, and his interactions with Reva brought me so much joy. He’s presented as such a strong kid despite the horrible hand he’s been dealt in life, and I think that makes him easy to admire. I can’t wait to see where his story goes in the next book after the developments near the end of Darkness Comes Again.

I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series. Darkness Comes Again sets up for what I suspect will be a really fun and interesting plot in book two.
