This was a very scientific look at how genetics are being used and how they came to complete the genetics map. He details how a couple historic figures were identified (or misidentified) and just an overall look at how genetics are being used today. It was good overall, just not really my kind of topic. Though he did make it as interesting as it could be.

Pretty good but not great, found it repetitive and lacking in substance especially in the second half of the book. Got a lot from the first few chapters but then it was a bit of a slog.

This book did at times drag, but the highs were very high.
The ending quote “to be curious is human” really struck me.

Just ok. Not what I hoped it would be. Genomics are really interesting to me. Genetics was my favorite course in college and I enjoy reading works that explore those concepts. Unfortunately this was not the mashup between genetics and history that I hoped it would be. A lot of gobbledygook and focus on cultural and political phenomena that I thought detracted from the book.

This was so interesting and fun to read! It's written in a way that anyone who doesn't know much about genes can understand it. I learned a lot and also found out that there are many (many!) things we just don't know yet and why not. I now want to read more books about genes.
