Reading Teacher Of The Year made me smile. This book is sweet and cute. I love Marvin and Olan so much. Knowing them, make me feel better and feel all smiley. And by reading this book, I finally dive into a new author (again); M.A. Wardell.

I love how he described Marvin's love for Olan in this book. I certainly can't wait to read Teachers in Love #2; which is Mistletoe & Mishigas. And I'm so lucky to have the arc of that book! I'm ready to continue my journey in this series... of course with different characters!

Thank you so much, Matt! You are incredible! What a sweet story!

if you go into this expecting some smut, then you will be happy bc this had more than i was anticipating. i think the plot needed just a little something more. there were topics i feel were talked about briefly and not fully developed/resolved. i WISH marvin would have been in or considered therapy sooner - esp (!!) because of his anxiety [his character felt like he would be someone very open and accepting of being in therapy.] also the lack of dual pov made it feel like olan was such a flat character - it felt as if he all of sudden liked marvin and the biggest parts of his personality was that he’d never been with a guy before and he was smart…. like i need more from a LI y’all.

⚠️: alcoholism, addiction, panic attacks/disorders, parental abandonment, blood, infidelity, injury/injury detail, miscarriage (side character), pregnancy (side character)

This book was a lot steamier than I thought! I also don't know that I've ever read a M/M romance before and the way the characters fell for each other really kept me invested in their relationship. I went into this book pretty blind but honestly the illustration on the cover made me pick it up.

I love that Wardell adds in the awkwardness of having anxiety and finding love and I felt like it was so honest. Marvin has some serious anxiety and I think it's an accurate representation. This book also has great Jewish representation! I myself is not Jewish so I would refer more to a review from a Jewish person for the accuracy but I thought it was woven in very well.

I love Marvin & Jill's friendship so much! I also really appreciated the relationship between Isabella and Olan. Romances often villainize the ex but Isabella's care and support for Olan and Marvin was so heartwarming.

I also loved that Marvin's job was a kindergarten teacher! It was cute but not too corny and added some funny moments to the plotline.

Thank you to Kate Rock Book Tours for sending me a copy of this book!

General disclaimer if you've read other reviews by me and are noticing a pattern: You're correct that I don't really give starred reviews, I feel like a peasant and don't like leaving them and most often, I will only leave them if I vehemently despised a book. Thus, no stars doesn't indicate that the book wasn't worthy of any starred system. It just means I enjoy most books for what they are, & I extract lessons from them all, even if the lesson is that I'm a ho for the smut, or confronting my own mommy/daddy issues lol. Everyone's reading experiences are subjective, so I hope my reviews provide enough information to let you know if a book is for you or not. Happy reading! Find me on Instagram: @bookish.millennial

Read this if you appreciate reading about:
  • a super hot grown man's bisexual awakening
  • precious honeys in recovery and trying their gods damn best
  • complicated parent-child dynamics
  • a kindergarten teacher finding their love story! THANK GOODNESS FOR OUR TEACHERS YALL!
  • separated parents lovingly co-parenting
  • teasing through text messages
  • *love interest moves across the country to new/smaller town for a fresh start* (Portland, Maine is considered a smaller town, right? Apologies from this SF Bay Area baby)
  • first-person POV of a sweet, goofy, awkward main character (I ~*~adore~*~ you, Marvin)
  • delicious smutty scenes (imho, a solid 3/5 on the steam scale)
  • coming of age/self love/acceptance journey of adults! Late 20s to 30s year olds have coming of age journeys too!

I loved this book so much and highly recommend it to anyone who loves fluffy, sweet, smutty romcoms. Marvin + Olan stan forever and ever. <3

Honorable mention to Jill who was hilarious and provided such tender levity during Marvin's bouts of anxiety. Next honorable mention to Gonzo the cat because I'm that dog mom & am obsessed with your pets, yeah yeah yeah hahaha. Last honorable mention to Illona for being the most understanding, emotionally intelligent kindergartener ever and I stan her. Actually, okay ~*~this~*~ is the last honorable mention to Isabelle for being the kindest ex I've ever met in a book. May all exes aspire to be as lovely as her.

Thank you to the author for providing an eARC -- I will continue to read anything you write & am grateful for this story!
