Jen's memoirs continually crack me up. This one actually has some insights and reflections that I found interesting and valuable. I suspect some of the things she says would/will offend people, but if you've met her in person you start to "get" her sense of humor. Plus, she's a Pi Phi :)

Let's start here: I love Jen Lancaster. I think she is witty. I think she is a good writer. I think she makes it look easy. Her memoirs are just what my soul needs (yes really, my soul needs) when it's time to pause and remember this is life, let's not take this too seriously. Each chapter ends with a "Reluctant Adult Lesson Learned" which, to be honest, I didn't always get, but which didn't dampen my enjoyment of the story which proceeded it. Plus, somewhere in the book, she says that your 30s suck and the 40s are where it's at. I can't find it, but I swear there is something like that in there somewhere. And if nothing else, I then breathed a huge sigh of relief. Thank you Jen Lancaster.

Jen Lancaster, although we are separated by age and geography, I honestly believe that we could be best friends. And this exploration of grown-up life (buying a house in the suburbs, buying life insurance, getting a mammogram, volunteering, etc.) with the accompaning life lessons only cements this belief. You make me laugh long and loud and hurry to read passages from your books to my friends. Your descriptions of naughty pet behavior strikes very, very close to home. Your late onset adulthood makes for very entertaining reading. Next time you are in southern Virginia, give me a call. Lunch is on me.
