I first learned about this book in the "Have You Read?" section of Bookmarks magazine where readers send in a list of their favorite books. It so happens that there are two very different books of the same title and the reader that submitted the recommendation accidentally read this one before reading the one she intended to. Both have been on my TBR shelf.

Anyway, I found the story wildly imaginative and captivating, the writing beautiful, and the love story interesting and romantic without being sickeningly sweet.

I go into some plot details, but no real spoilers. If you like to be completely surprised in a book, stop here. ;)

A young woman, who is "Light" (a ghost basically), is in limbo for some reason (unknown) and is forced to haunt different people who are still "Quick" (alive). One day, while haunting her current host - an English teacher named Mr. Brown - she discovers that one of his students can see her. This is where the story really takes off, because she finds out that the spirit of a 27 yr old man is inhabiting a student's body because his soul left. He convinces Helen, the main character, to find a body to inhabit so they can be together (not weird because they were both the same age when they died). Their story unfolds, they begin remembering their original lives, etc. This was a real surprise and a great page-turner.

Ehh..... odd. Not bad per se, just odd and I didn't care about it that much. The sex scenes (while not graphic) were probably a little too much. It seemed like it was trying to be an adult when it's really just a teen.

This book was simply amazingly breathtaking. It was 'Hereafter' by Tara Hudson, done right!
Books about the afterlife always interests me, but the ones I have read in the past were so cliché that I gave up picking up books on this subject. But damn I am glad I picked this one up.

What an interesting read! It was slow at first, but from page 60-80 it had me turning the pages like a manic.

The way the plot develops is really well done, and, for me, the best were the relationships between the families, and the subtleties in their words and gestures. The almost-istalove was not perfect, but didn't annoy me like it usually does.

A book that gets you thinking, about how your actions can affect others and how love can change your perspective on everything.

I remember reading and absolutely adoring this book back in 2009. I need to reread it and see if I still love it the way I did. At the time it seemed so well written and captured me completely because I love a good ghost story.

The first 50 pages or so were great. After that...ppbbbbbbbtt. I don't have a lot of time to read, so if I lose interest in a book, it's done.

I have to say that I dropped the book. the thing is that I made it to page 100 but eith great difficulty because I couldn't put myself in the story. I didn't have time to feel thr characters..the author just brings romance on page 15. seriously? anyway two stars.

I'm writing this like 2 months after I read this book but my opinion has never changed. Maybe I'm biased because this was the book that got me into reading but wholy crap I loved this book. I was wary at first because it involved supernatural type things but it was just so good.

I fell in love with the plot and the characters and just everything. And james! Oh my, I fell in love with james, he's still my favorite book boy. He was just perfect, like the intimacy between him and Helen, how he was a gentlemen and just everything. Lets just say I adored Helen's and his relationship so much like you have no idea.

Also can i just say I cried quite a lot when this book finished because I was so upset it was over because I just wanted it to keep going on. That proves how good the book was because I didn't even like reading before that. However I know there is a sequel to this book but I'm wary to read it because the reviews say it was a disappointment and I don't want my opinion of this book to be affected. As well as I feel like it won't be the same because i don't think it involves james and Helen's relationship. Just Helen helping Jenny after the incident. So we'll see I might read it might not.

This is my 7th favorite book. It was incredible. The writing is beautiful. The story is thought-provoking. I definitely recommend this book. The story is about Helen, a Light (ghost) and what happens when she finds a young man who can see her. If I were forced to draw comparisons to help peope grasp the idea of the story and writing, I would say Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones". Please read this!

A certain slant of light was extremely heart wrenching and well written. It was a breath of fresh air in the young adult genre, while still having that appealing nature. I really enjoyed it.
