A beautiful collection of poems. I've never been one for poetry before, but I loved reading this. I felt connected with every poem, and many of them tugged on my heartstrings. I just wanna give Halsey a hug now.

Wow. Since I first heard Ghost many years I was drawn to Halsey's lyricism and bold storytelling, and BADLANDS remains one of my favourite albums of all time (that's not to say that hfk and Manic aren't both amazing too). Those same qualities are featured in this poetry collection, and more as Halsey tackles a lot of issues in her writing. There's a lot that hits hard, and caution before reading is advised.

~I received a copy from HarperCollins NZ and willingly reviewed it~

I’ve been in love with Halsey’s music since something like 2015, when I first heard Ghost on the radio. There’s a deep-seated honesty in her writing, which, combined with her poetic use of language results in something phenomenal and resounding. I Would Leave Me If I Could manages to capture these same vibes even without the soundtrack, and in some cases I could hear the music in my head as I read these words.

Something about this collection took me right back to BADLANDS, the beginning of Halsey’s rise to fame. There was so much to think about within the words, and the rhymes were extremely clever. It felt personal, almost an autobiographical collection of stories and moments of Halsey’s life. She invites you inside her mind and shows you the words that form the beginnings of her music.

The only thing that bothered me was what felt like an excessive use of similes. it needn’t have been a big deal, but it was one of those things where, once you noticed it, you couldn’t go back. If you’re a fan of Halsey’s music I urge you to go read this collection now, and if not, I still highly recommend it; the wordcraft is absolutely brilliant.

I love Halsey, I love their music, but this just wasn't a hit for me

I wanted to like this more and there were some poems that struck a chord, but apart from them most felt like a stream of consciousness, adding a lot of paragraphs to follow the artsy pattern of what a poem is supposed to look like.

That being said, my favoritesfavorites were
- I would leave me if I could
- forever... is a long time (love the song actually)
- the painter (that one broke me)
- seventeen

"Why can I love him
only when he leaves?"

"I got this bad habit
where I don’t think before I speak."
(guts)

"Well you’re older now it seems
why is everyone so mean?"

I've been a fan of Halsey's music for a long time and I was excited for this collection. The book wears its heart on its sleeve and it definitely gets repetitive at moments. However, there are some beautiful stand0ut poems in here and it lived up to my expectations. Halsey's biggest strength is definitely her songwriting ability, but overall, I enjoyed reading this, even though it's quite different than the kind of poetry I typically read.
