I love this with all my heart!! I love the horde sooo much! And this is a good retelling of the movie.

The narrator was excellent and I always enjoy Golden's writing. There was a discrepancy in the story though. If you have read Rise of the Horde, there is a story of Durotan and his best friend Orgrim being saved by a draeni hunting party, but in this one it is implied that Durotan's first interaction with draeni is as an adult. That point wasn't crucial to the story, so my nerd girl sensibilities were a bit agitated about it. If you haven't read any of the Warcraft stories and are looking for a starting place this would be a good one to pick up if you don't want too much backstory on the world of Draenor. If you really want a detailed beginning I HIGHLY recommend picking up Rise of the Horde if you can find it, or the anthology, Chronicles of War which has it as the first book. It's what got me hooked on this fantastic series. Full review to come.

I loved this book from begin to end. I watched the movie Warcraft: The Beginning over a year ago and I've been playing the game for almost two years now.
The story takes place on the planet Draenor. The story is non-canon to the game lore, but still pretty similar. The novel pictures the life of Durotan since he were a boy until right before the events of the Dark Portal (It's seen as a 0 point in the calendar, like the birth of Jesus in our world.)
Unlike the novel Illidan, another Warcraft novel from another writer, this story sucked me up and it almost felt like I was in Durotan's skin. All the sentences and dialogues flowed into eachother so naturally. All the feelings, not only from the main characters, but the entire clan, were worded as if every character was equally valued. By reading the book, I felt part of the clan and I was genuinely sad when I finished the last page, as if I said goodbye to my family and friends.
I would both recommend this book and other books from Christie Golden.

Christie Golden zdobyła moje serce znakomitą i nietypową - jak na uniwersum, w którym osadzona była akcja powieści - książką "Zbrodnie wojenne". Wielowątkowy, bogaty w zwroty akcji i znakomicie napisany... dramat sądowy w świecie WARCRAFTA? Tego się nie spodziewałem! Zaskoczenie było jednak, jak najbardziej, pozytywne i głównie dlatego, po pojawieniu się najnowszej powieści - będącej efektem kooperacji reżysera i scenarzysty kinowego WARCRAFT: POCZĄTEK, Duncana Jonesa i pani Golden - nie zastanawiałem się długo i czym prędzej ją nabyłem.
Wybór autorki prequela filmu, który niebawem zagości - lub już zagościł - na ekranach kin wydaje mi się strzałem w dziesiątkę. Christie Golden ma znakomity styl i bardzo dobrze czuje to uniwersum. WARCRAFT: DUROTAN jest powieścią nieco bardziej kameralną i zwartą niż ZBRODNIE WOJENNE, jednak mimo tego, że główny tor fabuły łatwo przewidzieć - biorąc pod uwagę fakt, że jest prologiem do wydarzeń z filmu, ergo nie ma cienia wątpliwości, jaki będzie finał tej opowieści - to i tak miewa zaskakujące i mocno chwytające za gardło momenty.
Najcenniejszym, co książka oferuje przyszłym widzom filmu, jest solidna podbudowa postaci Durotana, którego motywacje i postępowanie w filmie będą dużo bardziej czytelne i lepiej uzasadnione. Tyczy się to zresztą większości pozostałych bohaterów, takich jak Draka, Garona, czy Orgrim.
WARCRAFT: DUROTAN nie jest może lekturą obowiązkową przed seansem filmowym, ale przeczytawszy ją zyskuje się perspektywę, na tle której wydarzenia rozgrywające się w WARCRAFT: POCZĄTEK, mają nieco więcej głębi. Ponownie - bardzo dobry styl pisarski i szeroka wiedza o uniwersum, którą docenią wszyscy fani gier z serii WARCRAFT. Liczę, że Wydawnictwo Insignis w najbliższym okresie wyda więcej literatury sygnowanej przez tą autorkę.
