Just having a hard time getting invested even at this stage in the book and after 200 pages I’m tapping out.

I had to finish it .... I know it's 12 : 05 but I could not go to bed without knowing what happened ... I just want her and Cal to finally stop the mistrust and get together already :)

I’m so annoyed I can’t remember how the series ends.

Spoilers? Maybe but only really for book 1 and nothing major I’d say.

This picks up straight after the first book which I appreciate with some sequels starting months or even years later leaving you to fill in the blanks.

This is very much a second book in a longer series, there’s camping, minor scuffles, character building, world expanding and battle preparing. But it’s kept interesting enough and the ending really ups the ante.

Our characters really grow and stretch and not always for the positive. Mare especially becomes colder, more calculating and almost unrecognisable at times, yet the building from the first book just about keeps you on her side with the other characters brining sense and her back to herself.

The big faceoff is not the faceoff we expect it is, as in the first book there’s a final crescendo ready to lead you into the next.

Bring on the next! I forgot how much I enjoy ya fantasy, it’s so much easier to read and yet still as gripping with the characters and story.

Compared to the first book, I really disliked the pacing, plot, and character development. I disliked it so much I don't think I'll read the next one.

While I finished this book, I will not be continuing the series. I have a feeling I read this at the wrong time in my reading journey. If you are part of the "SJM Effect" pipeline and those adjacent romantasy adventures, this series needs to be read early on, in my opinion.

I liked book 1 and the premise  of the world and magic system. I was interested to see where things went, but this book lost me. There is no spice, which I was expecting. I don't mind a slow burn, but if you're in it for more than a peck here and there, this is NOT for you.

What also lost me in this book was the repetitiveness of the themes and plots. "Anyone can betray anyone." Ok, I do love this tagline, but how many times do we need to say it and how many times is it needed to hold up the plot? The FMC, Mare, is just really freaking annoying. She's one of those who let life happen to her instead of taking it by the reigns and making it work for her. I don't see any growth from book 1 to book 2 and I wasn't convinced I'd see any in book 3.
She is so hung up on Maven, the MMC's brother and new king, it was infuriating! He is not a good person. He is not redeemable, at least not enough to be endgame for her. She has a weird relationship with his older brother the MMC, Cal, and I don't love that she can't seem to decide who wants to be with. Then there's the childhood friend Kilorn, who has professed his love for her and it's all just too loose and messy for me for no reason.

The Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

The second part of 'Red Queen' quadrilogy. By now this book series intrigued me very much, they're one of the most intensest series I've read and I only read 2 out of 4 hoping for more chaos for the next ones. By each following installement, this series is becoming more harsh, dark and complicated. My expectations weren't as high as I've had for the first book, but it turned out that I was wrong. I liked this one a little more than the first, because of its actions, the darkness and more importantly the intensity in it.

Victoria writes her books very beautifuly, the details of the sceneries and etc. are described incredibly. This isn't a series that you can quickly read and finish it in a short time. My average reading time is maximum 3 days no matter how long it is, however 'Glass Sword' took a great amount of my time to complete it. These are the kind of books that thrives for concentration and one's mind have to be fully focused on the story.
So many interesting things happened in it, a lot of tragedy, unexpected moments (not necesarilly plottwists), but the romance was not as much whatsoever, surprisingly that didn't bother me at all.
Each character were unique on their own, no matter how stupid, annoying, fierce or likable they are. I liked them all equally, but not loved.
One of the things I also love about book endings besides 'Happily ever after' are cliffhangers, I always thrive for more in books and obvious ending don't give me satisfaction.
In total, I liked the second book of RQ very much.

4 out of 5 stars.
