This was an impulse buy at Costco, of all places.
I think this would've been a good companion piece during my first read thru The Silmarillion or the LOTR, as David Day's book does offer some concise summaries of those texts. However, if you're a die hard Tolkien fan, it's doubtful you'll find much new here. It's mostly descriptions of some of the most well known scenes from Tolkien, boiled down to 2-3 paragraphs and accompanied with some representational artwork.
Speaking of the artwork (which is heralded as one of the book chief features) I found it to be crude and simplistic in most cases. You'd probably find better material with a quick Google search.
Nice enough for what it is, but what it is isn't very deep. Great cover, though.

The atlas is awesome! It offers a great overview of Tolkien's world, its forming and its four ages. All the drawings are superb and offer great visual aid. Definitely a book for every Tolkien fan!

This was an interesting book.
I loved the illustrations throughout the book and the info that was in the book was good.
This was a fun quick read about the world of Middle-Earth that J.R.R Tolkien created. The information was great and there was a lot given but in a few words on a page. It is great to read about one of my favourite fictional places in a fun and interesting way.
The illustrations are so pretty and beautiful to look at. It looked like it took some time for them to be done but they all look great and represent Middle-Earth well.

The art was nice, and the information wasn't bad...
...But I have to be honest, a lot of the charts were terrible. They were really difficult to read, and I feel like the authors prioritized something aesthetically pleasing over something that you could easily decipher where the charts and timelines were concerned.
Also, the fact that they would cover a period of history in one area, then RE-COVER it again from another person/peoples' perspective was not always done clearly- I was getting confused about how many times Morgoth had been caught and chained up before I realized "Oh, this is them going over the same thing again."
