While I love Isabel Allende, this book was not my favorite. There were four character points of view and sometimes you spent so long with one character, it was hard to remember the other characters when you got to their chapters. It also took so long to converge their stories - which made sense in the end but it was difficult getting there. Still, Allende weaved a beautiful story that had me teary most of the time. 3.5 stars

Loved this! I love how it all connected together and how each of the characters, despite coming  from different backgrounds, endured similar painful experiences and emotions during their lives without even realising it.

I wouldn’t recommend the audio version. I love Ballerinj, but I don’t think he was a good choice for this story. I also felt like the story was too divided between several stories that were artificially brought together.

The political agenda is far too pushed. The characters, the story, the development was soulless. I wish I had DNF’d I skim read the final 40%.

So much of the intersections were pointless, the romance etc held no value. The writing style was just factual, over and over, no actual story just facts. The characters lacked any depth. I also really hated the flick between characters that was so extreme! We jumped decades, didn’t hear from characters for chapters and chapters. It was just a big no for me.
