I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast pace thriller and I wanted to know exactly how it would end from the moment it started. Some of it was predictable. But I didn’t guess the twist. I would say if you don’t like paranormal aspects to your stories, you probably won’t like this. But I don’t kidnap this book was good but there were so many ways this book could have ended and I kind of wished it had a different ending. But anyway, I really enjoyed it regardless.

The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager had an interesting premise: Casey is a recently widowed actress who retreats to her family's summer house to retire from acting and to slip into solitude. She is drowning her sorrows in heavy drinking and has taken up watching her neighbors across the lake in their massive glass home. One day, she saves the owner from drowning and they become fast friends. But when the neighbor goes missing after sharing some personal issues about her husband and their rocky relationship, Casey believes the husband is responsible and her friend is in grave danger.

The beginning was easy to get into, but Casey's massive drinking habit and the repetition of her spirals quickly became very one note for much of the book. Twists popped up that picked up the pace of the story, but the big twist and reveal was way too far out of left field to be believable for me. Nothing in the story prepares you for the sudden curve ball, so it really breaks the flow for me. Normally, those kinds of threads don't bother me at all, but the story doesn't make you feel like you are heading in that direction.

All in all, it was an ok read. You might enjoy it if you like slow build thrillers and don't mind where the story takes you.
