I read this as an audiobook so perhaps i didnt pay the fullest attention to it. The plot is engaging. Especially the scenes in court, those are the most intriguing. But tbh it was a little bland overall, still. Wasn't the biggest fan of the writing style. I should've read this when i was younger -- I think some of the quote and some of Atticus Finch's wisdom would've stuck a far deeper chord for me/been generally more educational if I'd read this book in secondary school or upper primary.
I can see why it's a classic given the issues it tackles which were especially significant during the time of its publishing, but if it had come out in the modern era, I don't think it would've attained anywhere close to its current notability. There are now so many more books that do better justice to To Kill a Mockingbird's main themes. But it is still special as it's from a child's perspective, and it is by no means a bad book.

How did I miss this book all these years? Part of the high-school rite of passage that someone I missed, probably because I talked my way into some honors Junior class because there was a boy in there that I liked and skipped 10th grade English. Ah, but I digress.
I suspect that this book is wasted on youth. I think its simple message and loveliness is killed in our attempt to study it, write papers about it, and make dioramas of the thing. I listened to most of this as an audio book, read by Sissy Spacek and if you haven't read the book (or haven't since high school), I highly recommend you list to her read. Her voice will always be Scout's voice in my head. She made me fall in love with Scout and the world that surrounded Atticus Finch. And I loved that I was able to just enjoy the story, think about it, and then let it be.
This is now one of my favorite books and that is probably because I did NOT read it in high school. That and Sissy, whose voice I used to hate, but have strangely come to love over the past month of listening to her read to me.

At first I thought this was going to be one of those books that are a classic but pretty boring. But instead I was sucked into a story which discusses social injustices that occur as a result of discrimination or having prejudice thoughts.
