Wow…I was surprised with this one. Book one left me wanting a bit…it was short and felt a bit rushed. The pacing of this book was much better, the story more developed and just better IMHO. There is very little angst – more internal struggle than anything, which is organic and well-written – and what little is there is resolved quickly and handled very well.

I suppose this could be read as a standalone but to fully understand the animosity toward Scott and the reason for it, I recommend reading Let Me Show You first.

Scott is still coming to grips with his sexuality, getting out from underneath his father’s heavy hand and deciding what he wants to do with his life. Davis befriending him is the best thing for Scott. Because Davis is a father he can’t rush into a relationship so their friends-to-lovers, slow burn connection is perfect for both.

Tanner and Carter play big parts in this book which may be another reason to read their book first.

I would be on board with seeing more of these characters or revisiting characters in this town if the books are as good as this one. Definite thumbs up from me on this one!

Scott’s emotional journey and all of his firsts really suggest this book should be heavy. But in reality it was made both impactful and light. It allowed you to stay an observer of his position and where his mind is at times, but doesn’t drag you with him. While it could have left the reader in a dark emotional place, it was addressed and written with a finesse that didn't weigh heavily on the reader.

I loved the emotional maturity shown by the MCs. The reality of blending someone into your family felt honest and real. Davis is real single dad book boyfriend goals.

It's plain and simple: I loved this book. Scott and Davis are just perfect together. They complement each other, support each other and take the time needed to build a strong and wonderful relationship, despite their past, their mistakes. It was funny and heartwarming to see Carter and Tanner again, and how Scott found a new family with them. This author is becoming one of my few 1-click authors and I can't wait to read her next story.

This book is good! I didn’t read the first book, but I didn’t need to. You can tell there was drama and angst before but it doesn’t spill into this story. This love story is quick and sweet. The characters are well developed in this both and enjoyable. Redemption for a dick move in the previous story is found. This book is sweet and spicy and I totally recommend it!

Super short and sweet, I did want a little more character development but it was just what I needed.

I love me a good redemption arc and that's just what I got here as Becca Seymour completely turns around Doctor Dickwad and had me falling for him big time.

Davis was just the right man for Scott to lean on, first in friendship and then more, as he came to terms with acknowledging his sexuality out loud and all the levels of anxiety and doubt that came with it.

The narrative does a great job of slowly peeling back all the layers, never excusing Scott for his poor behaviour towards Carter in the first book, but giving explanations for why.

I loved pretty much everything in this story, including Scott's sister and her two kids, and it never felt like the plot was ticking off boxes.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Man, the main character in this book is the douchebag from the first one! He didn't redeem himself there and didn't do it here either.

Yeah, yeah, poor rich boy! He has a hard time with his life because he decided that he liked dad's money more than himself, Bu-fucking-hoo! I get that coming out is not easy, but if you decide to hide who you are, that's on you and it doesn't give you the right to act like a monster to the ones who are living the life that you choose not to live. He is not a 15 year's old kid, at 30+ he can't use his dad as an excuse anymore.

And the whole thing of Carter-as-best-friend... sorry, but it's too much.

I guess my dislike of Scott permeated my whole experience, but I don't think I'll be back for more in this series :/

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Oh, this was just the type of sweet story I needed right now. It hasn’t been that long since I read Let Me Show You so I still had these characters in my head when I started the book.

I hated seeing Scott struggle, it’s hard to see him struggle to accept himself and then even believe that someone else could accept him. I think the support of Carter and Davis and then when his sister comes to stay helps him to grow the confidence he needs to fight back against his father when he comes to destroy their happiness.

I liked that Davis wanted to take things slow and allow them to grow a real friendship before they jump into anything and it also gave Scott the chance to prove himself with Libby. Libby is adorable, but what one year old isn’t but she is really number one in Davis’s life. My only gripe with the story is that I noticed there was a different name for Libby’s birth mom in this book than in Let Me Show You, I don’t know if it is an edition thing or not but it was a little confusing at first.

The cover art by Booksmith Design is adorable and I love the visual of Libby.

I received an ARC for an honest review so I will start with- READ book one first so you get to know all the characters and their backstory. Going in cold I didn't know the guys or why he's called Dr. Dickhead and I really wish I did but I can say I enjoyed the book.
I loved the single dad story and thought the best friends helping was great. The love that Davis has for his daughter is so sweet. Some truly cute and funny parts.
I will be going back and reading book one so I can get to know the guys better.
