Even tho I completely understand her reasonings, I can’t relate to Lina and her attitude towards things and that’s the reason I didn’t really enjoy this book that much. I found her acting very childish. You call that petty? Come on. Now, some of the situations they got themselves into were very funny. The thing is that I read The wedding crasher first by mistake and I feel like the characters act almost completely different. Dean doesn’t sound like Dean in this book. One time Lina stuck his tongue out to Max and I was like “mmm well ok”. Doesn’t really have consistency when it comes to the characters. I’ve been trying to learn Portuguese for years now (I can’t commit to anything but I keep coming back to Brazilian culture) and I loved that I understood some things in this book. Overall nice read just wish some things would have been different.

P. S.: fuck Andrew and also enjoy my fav quotes as usual.

“Don’t spell shit out this early in the morning, Lina. I can’t deal.”

“Then I asked myself, ‘Self, if Max is spending a lot of time with Lina, what’s a possible scenario that would lead Max to ignore his best friend?’ And it came to me”—he pretends to crack a whip—“like a bolt of lightning, it came to me: Max and Lina are doing the horizontal samba.”

“I wish I could erase my memories of him - because you can’t miss someone you don’t remember.”

i listened to this story in audiobook format, which might be the main problem, as the general style of writing was sort of hard for me to swallow.

Max is really just some guy that i found myself developing no attachment to, but his chapters were hard especially to get through, probably because of his voice actor, but also because of the way it was written.... i hate using this word but i guess it was just cringe? i do want to put more blame on the acting though.

i also can't side with Lina in her behaviors the entire book either, and i know that's kind of the point that she's dealing with her hurt feelings and betrayal in a bad way which leaves room for character development, but she doesn't even act understandably. Max is pretty consistently nice to her, and she is always focused on getting revenge on him in really random ways, even though his brother is the one that screwed her over. i just dont think anybody makes any sense this entire book.

then i just couldn't get through the rest of it once i reached their first sex scene (not sure if there were others) the voice actors were just doing their jobs, but the way that scene was written... maybe i'm a hard sell, but truly, smut fanfiction i read at 15 was easier to get through.

2023 reread: still a nice charming story...nothing super special but definitely still enjoyable. Some of the dialogue is odd but I laughed and rooted for these two the whole way through.

I hate read this. It was good and then I got to the sex scene and they fucking talked through the whole thing. I think that’s where I realized the absolute mess this book was.

Five stars, def a fav. I loved this book. I love Max and Lina, every character was so perfect. Their love was refreshing and not toxic- which can happen with a complicated relationship like theirs. I loved that it included their insecurities regarding family and trusting, building, and growing in their relationships and careers. This is also more just about the physical book but I love when the cover has a part where the book is meant to bend when it’s open, that’s the best creation ever and I love that this book has that. Anyway, I loved that they came back to each other in a healthy way, there was no other women/men or drama with their complicated situation (much). They realized they loved each other and grew into that love together. Ugh it was so good and I love it
