I liked the premise but it just wasn't doing it for me. I also had no idea this book fell under the magical realism category and I wouldn't have read it if I had. I never really liked Alice. Her wishy-washiness and quitter mentality did not appeal to me. Her and Madeline's connection did not do much for me either. I don't understand how they were linked together.

This was a charming romance book that had a touch of magic mixed into it. I’m a lover of magic and the idea of someone being able to write person specific stories to read for themselves and once they do they are able to fall in love. Well I definitely would pay for those services.

It was a bit of a slow story though and it had zero spice.
The narration made the difference with Julia Whelen’s voice keeping me more interested than the story.

the premise was interesting, but the plot was predictable and the “twists” were not surprising. i liked three of the characters, but two of them were not introduced until the last quarter of the book. i found madeline frustrating, rude, and annoying. there was no character growth for madeline, and i predicted the whole plot, almost to a T, from the first few chapters. i honestly think this is a 2.5 rounded up. i’m generally really lenient and casual with rating (typically going with 4 stars), but this one did not have me hooked or enthralled. it took me much longer to read this than it should have because i struggled to connect to it, despite understanding and relating to so many of the characters.

Cute book. Storyline a little hard to follow at the end and a little drawn out. But a nice easy read with an interesting concept.
