I couldn’t find the volumes in the Libby app. I ordered vol1 simply because of Linda Sejic’s art that she shared on Instagram. As soon as I finished it, I went back online and ordered vol 2&3.

The art is delicate and expressive. The story is just getting started, but the characters are believable and relatable.
I’m not sure where this is going…but the heart and story direction is enough for me, I’d like to know what Sejic would like to tell me.

I love Linda and Stepan's other works very much, and not long ago I read the horribly named [b:Punderworld|50031171|Punderworld|Linda Šejić|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1621587498l/50031171._SX50_.jpg|75033045], which features Greek gods and goddesses based directly on the two main characters from Blood Stain - and I liked it! Blood Stain, on the other hand, is ruined by a dreadfully slow pace and basically nothing happening throughout the entire first volume. The entire thing is setup for the protagonist getting a job. That's it. Worse yet, the dialogue sounds like Google translate turned it into English - namely, it could do with a couple dozen conjunctions in place of awkward robotic speech.

4 stars because I don't really have complaints yet. It's only just begun, and I find it enjoyable.

I enjoyed the inclusion of the notes and sketches in the back and I like the establishment of Elly's characters so far.

A whole lot of nothing happens here. I guess the author was trying to get us familiar with the MC. We get to know a lot about her and how she ends up as a lab assistant. But majority of the book is her looking for a job, previous jobs experience, and her last job before she accepts the sketchy job.

Ely has been unsuccessful in getting a full-time job even though she has a degree, two years since she graduated. Her sister accused her of being a free-loader, even though she tried working menial jobs, which she failed at miserably. After working hard and getting the hang of being a server at a restaurant for two months, her boss decided to let her go due to bad business.

As a last resort, she dropped everything and flew out with minutes to spare to take up a job as an assistant to Dr. Vlad Stein aka The Mad Scientist.

This volume started of great, however I had a hard time deciphering what Dr. Stein is saying in his bubbles. Not sure whether it's just me, or the thin white font against the black bubble is giving me a headache.

Lots of extras and bonus content which I appreciate but I thought those are kinda spoiler-ish as they include panels to future volumes.

Special thanks to NetGalley, for providing a free e-copy from the publisher, in return for an honest review.
