“But a river only moves in one direction, no matter how much we wish it weren’t so.”

This book doesn’t have a lot of plot and definitely lacks subtlety in its messages, but it’s charming and cozy and made me sob at the end. I binge-read this and had a great time doing so.

Reading this at the same time as watching midnight mass was… interesting. Two very different stories with very different takes on death. But oddly enough, I liked the themes and messages in both.

I’d like to reread this one in a year or two and see how I feel about it on a second take.
