I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Cicadas Sing of Summer Graves tells the story of three women and their connections to the town of Prosper. It's a mix of genres, it has a bit of everything, but I'd say fantasy (and magical realism) best describes the book. As the book introduces many things, many POVs, the plot ends up being a bit confusing. And since it's pretty slowpaced doesn't help a bit. The book only got me after 60% and I considered DNFed it several times, and you can see it took me about 4 months to finish reading. But despite that, it is a very well written book. Extremely descriptive, with long chapters and a lot of history to tell. Unfortunately it's not my type of book, but I'm sure a lot of people will like it.

Story follows three characters: Cassie, Lark, and June. This one is very much a slow burn, and there are elements of magical realism within. While I do typically enjoy a slow burn , this one did seem to drag on to get to the point. I was just left hoping for more. More out of the characters and more out of the stories.

This is LGBTQ representative which was a welcome addition.

I think this story was okay, but I think could benefit from including more, of what I’m not exactly sure.

I think there are people who enjoy this more than I did, but it was just okay to me.

The book was atmospheric and I love the lake setting.
Apart from that, there was not much to love. The 3 main characters were not clearly defined with a specific voice, so I kept getting confused and also wasn't invested in their stories/sturggles at all.
I didn't like the magical/supernatural elements.
There were many scenes that felt pointless, didn't advance the plot, and it felt like it needed more editing. I was basically bored and confused.
I personally don't like to read about animal cruelty so it was another nope for me.

This book reminds me so much of an adult version of Dark and Shallow Lies, but with a much more solid ending.

I thought every character, of which there were more than I was anticipating, was well developed and their individual "lore" kept my attention throughout the book.

The ending was also phenomenal. I love some far-out personal growth AND we got a cute lil HEA.

The only drawback I have was with Catfish's storyline. I really wish her history was more involved so I had a chance to feel connected to her character in life, instead of just focusing on the tragic way she died. I can't get on board with the expectation that readers are just supposed to believe that great love/loss was the genesis for her whole story without being able to see really any of it.
