I just love his series so much. I originally gave this book 5 stars...and it really is incredible but I have now changed it to 4 stars for one specific reason
SpoilerAll of the scenes with Eamonn and Fainne seriously grossed me out. I was kind of sickened by it actually. What we basically consider an old man in these books pursuing a 15 year old...all the groping and kissing..just ugh. I found it much harder to read then I did the rape scene in the first book.
...which maybe makes me heartless but were all different right?! But I do just love the story...definitely more than [b:Son of the Shadows|13927|Son of the Shadows (Sevenwaters, #2)|Juliet Marillier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388460890s/13927.jpg|2801045]not sure if I like it more than [b:Daughter of the Forest|13928|Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1)|Juliet Marillier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1343589988s/13928.jpg|1897725]. Im just so in love with Darragh its ridiculous. Haha. Anyways...excellent books. I also bought three that come after this one but have yet to read them. Will let everyone know :)

I hadn't realized fully how much my enjoyment of these books was based on the strength of the main characters. And then I met Fainne, and I couldn't wait to get rid of her.

3.5 stars. This is definitely my least favorite Marillier read so far. Blackmail as a plot device isn't my favorite, and in this case it made our heroine seem especially weak. I was slightly amused, and bemused, with Eamonn's somewhat redemption-for me, he was a character who never quite fit.

This is a great story, and the characters and their world is rich. The nature theme is beautiful, as well as the mysticism, the language and theme really resonated with me.

I've preferred earlier books where the family, and Sevenwaters, is the focus of the story-this time it was more tangential than emphasized. Lady Oonagh, a GREAT villain, makes her return, as readers of Book 1 know was a foregone conclusion, it was good to get that wrap-up.

I wasn't a big fan of how this ended, it wasn't a joyous and streamlined as with previous books. Additionally, I didn't enjoy the romance in this book-it felt patronizing, not like true love. I also wasn't a fan of how Liadan was portrayed-it was inconsistent with Book 2.

I recommend this book to readers of earlier Sevenwaters books, or those looking for a nature-based fantasy book. This is not Marillier's best, but if you enjoy this you will certainly enjoy her other books.

I've had to put this book on hold for months, as I paused to read library books or book club books, but every time I pick it up I fall deeply back in love with this world. It was easy to get caught back up in the story, which is almost as epic as Tolkien (but MUCH more personal), lovelier than a Song of Ice and Fire, and much more feminist than the Name of the Wind. It's like reading female-centric Arthurian legends. Just my cup of tea :)

4.5 stars.

This book was brilliant and so, so emotionally exhausting. Juliet Marillier packed enough content in Child of the Prophecy to fill an entire trilogy.

Right now, this is my second favorite book in the series, and it wasn't even very romance-focused. The love story between Fainne and Darragh was amazing, don't get me wrong, but it very much took a back seat to everything else that was going on. I just loved this book, and its surly, enduring heroine Fainne, so much.
