While I enjoyed the play and the story, I find it interesting how Shakespeare fed into the Tutor propaganda and portrayed King Richard III as a complete monster outside and in. It's completely understandable why Shakespeare would do this, he was writing for Tutor England and let's face it, an evil monster makes a more interesting character than a not-so-terrible albeit greedy man. However, as usual, the characters are well developed and human nature is at its purest. There are also some great, memorable lines.

Shakespeare’s best character. He is absolutely unhinged and bloodthirsty, but strangely eliciting sympathy from his audience while we question: truth or manipulation? Shakespeare is brilliant in recreating a true historical figure, giving him the nuance and sometimes a sympathetic eye to a complicated villain who we are unsure if he was one by choice or by fate. The opening monologue remains one of Shakespeare's best.

Drama, Drama, Drama! I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. So far, I prefer Shakespeare's Richards to his Henrys. Poor Richard, he brought it on himself.
