Reread september 2022:
I think my favorite part of this book is when Miro goes in to take over in Custodial. He just makes it happen, and I love to think there are actual Miro's out there who'd go the extra mile for kids. <3
Also, just as impressed with the whole Dr. Hartley and Miro development. It's really well done, despite not going the normal route. It felt very believable.

This book was everything. I loooooooooooved it.
SpoilerWould love to find out what's in the Vault though. Like seriously. The Vault of a serial killer. I just need to know.

Sometimes change is good and necessary. I loved everything that happened in here. It was nice seeing everyone. I love this series. It needed to go where it did. It worked and I just went with it. The great thing about Mary's writing is it just made sense.

I love this series. Miro and Ian are my favorite fictional couple, which is amazing considering how many books I read. I love this series. I was so happy Hartley met his end and Miro found his true calling. I’m glad Ian finally told his dad to suck in a nice way. I’m pretty sure this is the last book for this couple. If it is, this was a nice wrap up for them. However, if Calmes decides to do a novella of them several years into their marriage, I wouldn’t be mad.

I’M DONE. I’M FREE OF THIS SERIES.

This book seriously felt like it was never going to end. Miro and Ian’s ending could have ended with book three and this could have a been a novella to wrap stuff up. The only important parts was 1) the wedding, and 2) the serial killer, Hartley.

The wedding was treated like an afterthought and only in a flashback scene way too late into this book. It was sweet but the way this whole book was written was just weird.

This book was a million scatted thoughts bundled into one book and, really, the return and closure to Hartley’s story with Miro was the most interesting part of this entire book and really the only thing that tied this series together.

Great to have Chickie alive and well.

I don’t understand introducing new storylines for Miro’s best friends at the last possible second, when it doesn’t seem like the author writes m/f books?? Like. I want their stories but why introduce new plot points and introduce interesting guys for them when the author won’t write their stories?

It was nice to see the Vegas guys again. I suspect they’ll have their own book in the future.

There was a long drawn out argument between Miro and Ian and the whole thing hinges on the reader understanding what’s going on. I could not for the life of me comprehend why Ian was so upset about Miro possibly taking on a new job when he himself was never in the office and Miro’s partner out in the field anyways. Then Miro’s freakout at the office?? I don’t get it and the entire thing could have been avoided.

I love Miro and Ian but this series was a mess and this last book possibly the least enjoyable of them all. They didn’t really work together and this book felt like an epilogue that never ends.

The only reason I managed to read this series was because of the audiobooks and Tristan James did a fantastic job narrating the books. Will I read more Mary Calmes? Maybe. I am tempted to learn more about Kage’s story in the A Matter of Time series but if I ever read that, it would probably through text since the narrator sounds too nasally for me. But I am going to take a break from this author and try to find a romantic suspense that’s hopefully more fun to read.

So, all the things I have repeated about this series still stand, but let's repeat them organised into a list. :D

LIKES:
✔ Sizzling hot chemistry
✔ Suspenseful cases
✔ Big changes in MCs life. There are a lot of mystery series where I feel like MCs stagnate in some limbo. Nothing big changes in their life, while they solve case after case after case. I really like the events in this book and how Mary Calmes showed us that we need to growing up in non-stop process.

DISLIKES:
✘ Brand name dropping. Miro is big fashion addict.
✘ Miro is a scatterbrained narrator. But after 3 books, I got used to it.
✘ Almost every person MCs encounter is homosexual. So it seems unrealistic.

If you like romantic suspense and MM romance, you got my recommendations for this series.

Honestly I'm sad Hartley died so much more than ending this series.
