Shout out Mrs. Clancy my 5th grade English teacher for telling me to read this book. Wish she knew how much it has stuck with me

Re-read this for the first time since I was a kid. I didn’t remember much, only that it crushed me…. It crushed me again. I would say this is a good one for middle schoolers.

I don't remember really reading this in my childhood, although I know I did. I really enjoyed this re-read.

I'd heard a couple of my friends read this story when they were younger and I never had so decided to read it as an adult. I love that it has a classic children's tale of solving a mystery of a suspicious neighbor while also tying in the serious story of missing one's mother. The ending is wonderful and ties together all of the loose ends.
