I used to watch the show based on these books with my dad when I was little. I finally decided to start reading the books and was not disappointed. Very entertaining, funny and heartwarming.

Episodic, chicken soup for the soul vibe. I liked this better having seen the masterpiece series first- not sure how I would have felt about it coming to it fresh.

We fall into this man's life right after he graduates into a veterinary career in a rural area. He awkwardly bumbles through learning to navigate his social and professional life. Dated, low steaks, lovely writing. MMC is boring and bland as they come, but it's a slow leisurely walk thru his days and the people around him.

I don't re-read books much, but I've read this 3 times for some reason. Great escape into the nature of rural England and a look into the lives of the most impressive people you never hear about in life...

It’s not horrible, but nothing spectacular either. Some parts  were quite endearing, but  most of the book was just fluff.

A lot of talk about intimate details of a country veterinarian’s day to day (blood letting, uterine prolapses, etc.), not in a crass way but frequent. There absolutely no character growth but I not sure I expected that from 24-30 year old country veterinarians. I also had a really hard time with the complete disregard to their personal safety, every story includes some tidbit of them being needlessly careless in a lighthearted, flippant way.

nicholas ralph is the perfect james herriot, but also gives an amazing (dare i even say unmatched) performance as siegfried and tristan. exactly how i always imagined them, he brought the book to life beautifully
