Zgaście światło. Zapalcie świece. Wejdźcie pod koc z kubkiem parującej czekolady. A następnie przenieście się do XIX-wiecznego zamku Włada Palownika w Rumunii. W skrócie – bądźcie świadkami polowania na Drakulę.
Słyszę kroki w tunelach, szelest skrzydeł nietoperzy, kapiącą gdzieś wodę. Za oknem śnieg, w środku ciepłe światło kominka i cienie kładące się na ścianie. Słucham legend profesora Radu o strzygach. Wstrzymuję powietrze w kostnicy. Czuję zapach czosnku. Znajduję tajemnicze listy i rysunki. Biegnę za Audrey Rose i Thomasem. Oddaję się klimatowi i przygodzie, którą stworzyła na stronach Kerri Maniscalco.
Chyba nie muszę mówić jak bardzo uwielbiam tę serię. Zakochałam się w pierwszym tomie o Rozpruwaczu, a teraz moją miłość mogłam przelać na Drakulę. To książki jedyne w swoim rodzaju, z niesamowitą mroczną nutą, opisane w taki sposób, że podczas czytania czytelnik jest w stanie przeżyć całą historię razem z bohaterami. Momentami miałam wrażenie, że ja z Audrey i Thomasem stanowimy nierozerwalne trio i jestem w zamku pełnym tajemnic, walcząc ze wszystkimi o jedno z dwóch legendarnych miejsc w akademii i poszukując naśladowcy hrabiego Palownika. A szarość za oknem i dźwięk toczących się w tle, po szynach kół pociągu tylko potęgował odczucia i dreszczyk emocji. Do tego dodajmy humor pana Cresswella i jego flirciarskie usposobienie, prawdziwą chemię między głównymi postaciami, brutalne morderstwa oraz tunele zaopatrzone w najbardziej śmiercionośne pułapki i mamy książkę idealną. Sama intryga również jest świetna – o ile w Rozpruwaczu szybko domyśliłam się kim jest seryjny morderca, o tyle w Drakuli do końca żyłam w niepewności. Jedyne co podobało mi się mniej niż w pierwszej części to samo rozwiązanie zakończenia – w Londynie było ono dużo bardziej absorbujące i dramatyczne, tutaj zabrakło mi tego momentu, w którym musiałam zamknąć na chwilę książkę i przeanalizować to, co się właśnie wydarzyło. Jestem tragiczno-romantyczną duszą i uwielbiam w książkach te momenty przepełnione niedowierzaniem i nieszczęściem, co nie zmienia faktu, że i tak finał był dla mnie satysfakcjonujący, a ja wręcz nie jestem w stanie myśleć o tym, że muszę uzbroić się w całe pokłady cierpliwości i czekać na trzeci tom.

So brilliant

I have been adoring this, and all the characters in it. It is written perfectly. The females are strong and the men aren't stupid. Perfect balance. And fantastic horror and mystery.

There's something about these books that make them really hard to put down.

I don't know how to explain that I don't like these books, but I also can't stop reading them!

Then again, I also can't explain why I don't like them. It was the same thing with the Kingdom of Wicked series.

They're just so WEIRD? Like I don't know if I'm bored or intrigued. I want to know what's going on and what's going to happen, but I also feel like I could skip to the end of the book and still enjoy it. Then again, I love the little romance. And especially how she stands up for herself.

Also the scene of her catching two women being "indecent" she was like "I DON'T CARE THAT YOU'RE WOMEN, I CARE THAT I CAN'T DO THAT TOO!"

I enjoyed this. I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as the first one, but I did thoroughly enjoy it. I loved the development of Audrey-Rose and Thomas’ relationship. Thomas 🔥 The Gothic, Winter atmosphere was incredibly engaging and I loved the use of Romanian throughout. The mystery was good, and although I did figure out the big twist, it did take me quite a while (around 85%), which for a ya mystery book I’m quite happy with. It was dark, and atmospheric and gory and very entertaining. Highly recommend. Onto the next!

If you read my review about Stalking Jack The Ripper you know I wasn’t the biggest fan. So I was a bit reluctant to start this book. But oh my, the start of this book was so much better! I was hooked and addicted since the first chapter. I think it was simply written way better. There was a lot of intrigue, mystery, even humour and delicate romance. Even though there was nothing steamy of whatever I’m rooting so much for Thomas and Audrey Rose. They are definitely the ride or die type of couple. Beware this book has A LOT of explicit descriptions about dead bodies, opening them, blood, ... even nasty animals.
I’m looking forward to read the 3rd book of this series especially as there was a little hint about it in this book.
