It really bothered me that
she never asks Antoine about his sister or mother.

This sweet, light read is a bit predictable at times, but still very good. Great on audio!

Lorrie was a character I immediately liked. She is a 40-something single mother, with two great kids, working hard in a job she loves at a cosmetics counter in a department store and has just decided that romance is not for her after a few bad (though funny!) experiences with internet dating. She doesn't have much confidence in her appearance, not helped by her svelte 70 year old mother continually putting her down and one of her dates saying she looked like a woman 'who likes her cakes'! But when she is contacted by Antoine, her first love and the boy who broke her heart when she was a teenager on a French exchange, she is very tempted to find out if there is any spark still there.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Lorrie as she wonders if she will ever find love again. She came across as a very real person coping, as many women do, with combining a home life with her work. It was really entertaining reading about her horror dates from the internet dating site, as she wonders if there are any normal men out there any more - and whether it's worth the bother of looking! I was outraged on her behalf when changes at work threatened both her job and her happiness. I think lots of women will identify with Lorrie as she has the opportunity to meet up again with 'the one that got away' and will be eagerly following her reunion with Antoine, now a gorgeous businessman, to see if it will work out for them.

Fiona Gibson has written about her characters and events in a way that made them totally believable. I particularly liked Lorrie's friend and lodger Stu, and thought his business idea was brilliant. He has a company called Parsley Force which delivers forgotten essential cooking ingredients to people who I think must have more money than sense. Ms Gibson, I hope you have trademarked that name! The elderly French sisters who own the cosmetics company Lorrie works for only made a brief appearance in the book but were such wonderful characters, full of life and ideas despite their age.

The Woman Who Met Her Match is a very enjoyable book, full of warm humour and characters you can relate to. It is the first of Fiona Gibson's books I have read but I know I can now add her to my list of authors to turn to for funny and feel-good reads. I've no idea if any kind of sequel is planned but I would love to read more about Lorrie and her family.

Severely disappointed. Based on the synopsis, I was really anticipating seeing this character come into her own and get a nice ending. While this book doesn’t end badly, for how much we went through to get to the end, it felt unsatisfying.

I cant put my finger on why it's only two stars. I found myself not wanting to pick it up and read it at all. I enjoyed the main character, her story, and everything, but I think I found myself not relating to it at all and I always like the books I can find a little bit if me in.

Lorrie was a single mom to two teenage children. Her kids thought it was time she started to date again and set up a profile for her on datemylovelymum.com. They felt Lorrie needed to go out, enjoy herself, and live a little. Lorrie had dated a bit after her partner died, but she was content spending time with her children and friends. Her best friend, Stu, had been living with them since he broke up with his girlfriend.  Lorrie had a couple of disastrous dates through the website and decided to put a hold on online dating. One day while checking out the latest on Facebook, Lorrie received a message from a boy she had a summer romance with in France when she was sixteen. She had gone to France to stay with a pen pal she had been set up with through her school French class. The month in France passed quickly. Lorrie and her pen pal didn't have as much in common as they once thought, but Lorrie found her older brother fascinating. He felt the same and they spent as much time together as they could. They both planned to write often and visit whenever possible. As expected, the romance was a casualty of time and distance. Lorrie was surprised by the message on Facebook. Why was he contacting her after all this time? She tried to ignore the request as he was the one who stopped writing and ended things, but her curiosity won out and she sent him a response.

Like most romances, you could easily see where the main character would end up. That's fine. It's expected, but I wished for more. Lorrie's life wasn't very interesting to me. I did enjoy her children and her friends, Stu and Pearl. I would have loved more interaction between those characters, especially her friends. Stu ran a delivery service for people who forgot ingredients while they were cooking, called Parsley Force. Pearl was a nanny for people when they went overseas on vacation. The ending was somewhat lackluster. It felt rushed when Lorrie finally realized what she wanted. It was ok, but not memorable.

Terrific characters, created with real depth, sympathy and understanding. There's a believable backstory for everyone and plenty of reason to care for our heroine. This is just a lovely book.

Lorrie is a wonderful character. She has two grown up children and is trying the dating scene again which doesn't seem to be going terribly well. Being in my forties also, there was a lot that I could relate to in Lorrie's life. Apart from the dating I should add. Having read Lorrie's dating disaster's, I don't think I would be in any hurry to join it if I ever found myself single again.

There are lots of fabulous characters throughout the story. I really liked Lorrie's lodger for one. I mean who wouldn't love a lodger that can cook and bake? I loved how comfortable the pair are together and they reminded me very much of a couple that have been married for years.

This isn't just a romance novel. Yes there is love in it but it's also about being grown up and having to make decisions. Much harder for Lorrie, when her children arn't that interested in what's going on in her life and she has a mother who is wrapped up in her own world. I really enjoyed reading of her work life and what it's like working behind a make up counter. Certainly makes for some interesting reading.

The Woman Who Met Her Match is a light hearted and feel good read that I struggled to put down. I really enjoyed my first introduction to this authors work and look forward to reading more by her. A highly entertaining and fun read.
