I love Nora endlessly, but this book was a little disappointing. Maybe it’s because I already know her story, but I didn’t feel I got to know her too much more than I already did through her other work. There was also a lot of repetition, to the point where I noticed several times that the same metaphor or thought was being phrased the same way and I thought I had maybe accidentally somehow gone back and was rereading a chapter I had already read.

I've said it in a hundred reviews before, but I love a a good, raw memoir where the writer is willing to let you in to the darkest, hardest moments of their life as well as the easy, everyday relatable moments.
I loved the authors voice, I loved the sweet relationship with her husband and really felt for her in her losses. The only thing I didn't love were the few chapters that almost slipped into self-help genre rather than memoir. I would have liked more detail about these huge events- I have a lot of questions left unanswered- but this book did for me what I think a great memoir should always do- it made me leave feeling like I'm best friends with the author, I know her that well.

I first read this six years ago, and I loved it. Six years later, it hits different which makes sense given *pauses and gestures to literally all the things in my life and the world right now*. This is just an outstanding blend of all the feels and all the reals - Wow, that was terrible. . . I'll show myself out. But you should read this book, then read it again. I adore it.

i am a big fan of nora mcinerny. i love her podcast. i love her dark sense of humor. i love her wanting to talk about terrible things honestly and openly. i love her teeth. it is not surprising that i also loved this book. it's a leeeeeeetle bit "bloggy" at times, and the chronology is all over the place, which sometimes confused me, but i love it anyway.
lmao at all the people on goodreads who are offended by nora's jokes/sense of humor in the book. READ THE TITLE OF THE BOOK.
