This is such a nice book. A wonderful book. I really really enjoyed it and it made me so emotional but it's so nice and easy and wonderful and I love love it. I love the aspect of friendship so much, even the tiny bit of romance. But what I love most about it is the aspect of family and togetherness and I'm emotional.

it's teenlit, yes. why did I chose this over thousand of teenlits? because it's from the one who also wrote Looking for Alibrandi. and it's a good deal. 10 ribu saja, sodara. jarang kan nemu diskonan 10 ribu-an dan agak sedikit bermutu bukunya? ihihihi.

AND DONE. my comment? sama seperti Looking for Alibrandi! masih bercerita tentang remaja 16 tahun separuh keturunan Italia yang tinggal di Australia, tetapi dengan permasalahan yang berbeda sih. tapi disampaikan sama apiknya seperti buku pertama Melina.

Wow!! Bawling and then laughing, before I stopped crying. I adored this book as a teenager, and I was a bit unsure about how I'd feel re-reading it as an adult. Resounding 5 stars!! This is why I love reading!! And this is so impressive for a re-read 21 years after it was released in 2003! Apart from 1 character's perspective on a sensitive issue (which other characters inc MC did not agree with!), all the important issues were dealt with surprisingly well for the time. The characters were realistic & flawed, the voice was so true, the friendships were simply beautiful and this family - oh, my heart. I will stop typing now because I am tearing up again.

* Plays 'Kind & Generous' by Natalie Merchant on repeat *

As far as contemporary all-of-the-feels teen novels go, this feels like one of the greats. Melina Marchetta does a supremely adept job at balancing some heavy mental health challenges with realistic teenage immaturity and antics.

Spending time with these characters felt like the book equivalent of when a teen movie casts actual high schoolers instead of 20-somethings, giving you a surprising jolt of, "Oh right, that's what real teenagers look like." This was touching, funny, and heartwarming.

Sorry, but this is not my cup of tea. Nothing make me interested dan terlalu banyak tokohnya membuatku bingung serta ceritanya begitu2 saja membuatku bosan. I should give bintang 1 but, yeah gpp ku berikan bintang 2 untuk menghargai penulis

Between the beautiful Edward Cullens and the sexy Salvatore brothers of today's young adult literature, it's easy to see why teenage girls think they're doing something wrong when all they get is Rob with the mullet who likes to fart and swear in the classroom. That's what I like so much about this book... it's not a story of beautiful, unrealistic people or the abnormally brave and self-sacrificing. This is the most honest depiction of school, boys and family for a teenager that I have ever read.

The description promised something that I have read a million times over, the good old high school novel about guy troubles with a bit of homelife worries thrown in. But Melina Marchetta takes a simple, exhausted idea and uses her excellent writing and multi-faceted characters to create something unique, entertaining and completely moving. I wouldn't have bothered with this book if it hadn't been for Tatiana's recommendation and I am now extremely glad for it. This is the first Melina Marchetta book I've read and it definitely won't be the last.
