Not very good if I’m being honest. Thought it was fantastic as a teen, but as an adult the writing isn’t great and the relationships are pretty toxic.
Graphic: Death, Gun violence, Suicide, Toxic relationship, Violence, Cannibalism, Suicide attempt, Murder, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Animal death, Sexual violence, Suicide, Blood, Grief, Cannibalism, Suicide attempt, Death of parent, Fire/Fire injury, and Alcohol

some nice prose here and there but other lines were a bit trite. i did appreciate that, as a YA book from the 90s, it avoided some modern staples like a heroine who insists she’s plain until the love interest declares otherwise. rather character- and relationship-driven but a bit weak on both counts. additionally, maybe i’m getting old but… …i think it’s a bit irresponsible to write a book for teenage girls in which the 16y/o female lead ends up with a 24y/o man who has also been sexually aggressive to her throughout
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Toxic relationship, and Violence
Moderate: Misogyny
Minor: Death of parent
