plot is very engaging and moves along well. The ending annoyed me (Petra/bean have had no build up and suddenly they are in love??). All of the female characters are only there as plot devices for the men. The politics of the book also make it very clear that’s the author is a boomer era white American.

This book is more philosophical, more political, and more modernly militaristic that the Previous Books in this series. (I've read Ender's Game ENder's Shadow and Speaker for the Dead.) Hence I didn't much care for them. My favorite part, which was great, came about halfway through. It really hooked me, but that character faded into the background again and My interest started wavering.

It’s a lot of politics.

Vond deze minder dan Ender's Game en Ender's Shadow, maar toch vermakelijk tijdverdrijf.

While I find Card's personal beliefs questionable (at best), I can't help but love this series, which exists in paralell to the Ender's Game universe and focuses on Bean, a much richer and more fascinating character than Ender ever was. Plus, the way that Card has fleshed out Petra over the series has been fantastic. If you enjoyed Ender's Game, skip the other sequels and pick up the Shadow series first.

I enjoyed this book, but Card seemed to be over-reaching in several places. I accept folding space time in sci-fi, but the speed with which Card takes the future world from status quo to Chinese conquest over all of South and Southeast Asia is a bit hard to accept for me. And his America in decline is a bit cynical, if not over done. This is more of a political/military thriller than sci-fi and reads more like Empire than the Ender's Game. Criticism aside, however, this is a very fun book to read for Ender fans.
