not enough havers!!!! deborah annoys me!!! but still excellent writing as always with elizabeth george. again like in the previous lynleys i felt like some britishisms were used wrong or aren’t used at all which always rips me out of the book and reminds me that george is american i gotta be honest!

I like the Detective Lynley series in general. The story line here is compelling g and kept me interested. However, I'd say I was able to skip over about 1/4 of the last few chapters because of the unnecessary detail about the weather, the driving conditions, the howling of the wind. I get why this detail was included, and toward the end of the book it was just noise that got in the way of the conclusion. It was a clunky ending in my opinion. Still worth the read.

Not my favorite Lynley novel. It re-hashed the same Deb/Simon and Helen/Lynley drama as before, didn't have enough Havers, and went a bit heavy on the Christianity themes. I also thought the pace was slow and the resolution to the mystery was unsatisfying.

shudderingly well-written. pathos, miscommunication, regret, longing, and that's not even part of the mystery which is strikingly sad and eerie, and yet human.

Another re-read of the Lynley, Havers and St. James series. As ever, I liked it because we got to know the main characters more. This one also got into the other characters more though, the ones centered around this mystery. I like these because they're police mysteries but they're not policey at all.
