this is another book i didn't finish...i just didn't like the author. I didn't like her writing style and I didn't like how she weaved her story. I just felt like I was listening to a whiny little brat and eventually I couldn't take it. It's one of the few times in my life you will hear me say (or in this case read the words that I've typed) that the movie was better than the book.

Not really my cup of tea but it held my interest to see it though to the end.

No nuance, no surprises. The only surprise was that we never learned what made Miranda one of the most successful woman in fashion magazines. We never saw her be an editor, only a one-dimensional fire-breathing dragon. Nothing believable here.

Ugly Betty, which I'm sure used Prada as a springboard, had over-the-top characters/caricatures, but occasionally gave you a glimpse of humanity in all the excess and ridiculous situations. Prada was soulless and frustratingly obvious.

There wasn’t much of a plot as much as a list of infuriating tasks the main character had to do for the job. I thought there would be moments where she realizes why fashion matters to people and Miranda was human but that didn’t really happen. There was definitely parts that have outdated takes including glossing over victim blaming her best friend for being SAd

I really enjoyed the book. There were a fair amount of liberties the movie made with changing the plot. I wish they kept the roommate bits in. The book has a more darker side shown. I deeply sympathized with the impossibility of Miranda’s requests (I use to work at said coffee shop in book and grocery stores). It felt very satisfying to have someone else say the things I use to feel when I worked those jobs. I wish I read this when I was younger so I would know I wasn’t crazy or not be overly dramatic when retelling about my day. Sometimes you have to be there in the moment to fully understand the things people go through on a day to day bases. I loved the style of how the author writes. Definitely worth the read even if you seen the movie it’s still it’s own world.
