I needed another quick read so I picked up “The Beast” by Jenika Snow. This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and let me just say…very spicy!
This was a first for me. I’ve never read a retelling or a “monster/human” romance and it won’t be the last. I’m already planning on picking up the second book in the Monster and Beauties series. The story follows Belle and the Beast obviously. Except there are a few twists that aren’t like the original and I’m not going to spoil those.
I think Jenika may be the queen of spicy short books. The book was so well written and kept me engaged throughout. I’m definitely a new fan and can’t wait to meet her at Book Bonanza 2023!

The plot had potential and I was excited for it…. But it felt like it was written by a 13 year old. I finished with hopes the ending would be good but the whole book felt very rushed which just ruined it for me.

Oh my gods this was dog shit 😂 I’m all one for a good Beauty and the Beast retelling but seriously?? It’s just fanfiction for the Disney movie! Down to the dresses, the description of the Beast, Gaston, Maurice (the narrator even SOUNDED like him!), and the housekeepers being literal ripoffs of Mrs Potts and Lumiere! It was written so sloppily to avoid having anyone talk. There was nothing inventive aside from “they fuck” and even then on Spotify, the chapters were out of order so by the time I got to the actual smut, I ran out of the hours for the month. When I finally had hours again, I realized I didn’t want to waste them on this poorly written dribble.

I know it's supposed to be short, but I literally had to google the book to make sure I didn't download an incomplete pirated version because it reads like there's a beginning and an end but no middle?? Like where is the book bruh.
