I see why the expectation for it’s adaption it’s high.
Thinking it through, I had the idea that I didn’t liked all of it, but all of the stories are cool, even the one with the little boy in the boarding school (the one I found harder to connect).
SpoilerI read the bit in which Loki impersonates the Asian thunder god and the song playing in my playlist was ‘Look what you made me do’ 😂😂 I found the timing hilarious

This volume was less centered on the humans that Morpheus interacts with usually, and focused more on the Endless siblings as well as other creatures in the realm. That being said, I really loved seeing Sandman interact with his siblings, and though the plot wasn’t my favorite, it was definitely entertaining throughout the volume. The plot sadly wasn’t the strongest point, but I enjoyed the detail that all of the chapters actually connected together unlike the previous volumes. As someone who grew up loving mythology, I appreciated all of the entities from various cultures, but I wish the story arc itself was stronger since I was excited at its initial introduction.

Overall, a fun read to break up my summer novel reads, but not the best style or plot wise.

So this is pretty much my favorite Sandman arc. Like, ever. But it was hard rereading it for I think a sixth or seventh time, because I'm so intensely familiar with the story at this point. Like, down to specific beats (like The Cluracan's icky child-boyfriend, even though he's actually probably an immortal, Thor hitting on Bast and generally being hilarious, the first really original horror in the Dead Boys story). But it's so good for so many reasons. Even though Kelley Jones's art is vaguely ill-suited at times (sometimes he just can't illustrate what's actually going on because he needs to throw another jar of ink at the page), Gaiman's writing is at the top of his game by creating characters and acquiring mythologies and making them his own in a way that probably won't be done again until The Wake (in Sandman) or possibly even American Gods, and he makes everybody uniquely themselves. Plus, the chapter opener all done from Nuala's point of view is something I'd forgotten about, and is decidedly wonderful.

That was nice. Honestly, thinking about it, I would like to have seen what Death was actually dealing with…

has to be my fav arc so far. the story finally feels really actualized, and i love a good incorporation of different cultures’ and religions’ understandings of death.
