Anne has been in foster care for a few years, but she’s just arrived at her newest home. A brother and sister, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert have fostered before, but only boys. This time around they’re fostering Anne, a girl going into 8th grade  There’s a big learning curve for the pair because Anne is an enthusiastic ball of energy. This is a wonderful story with a topic that’s not often written about, foster care. The characters are diverse and there is queer representation.

A super cute retelling of Anne of Green Gables! The pace was a little too fast, but I really enjoyed the updated interpretations of Anne and everyone in her community!!

This is a fun, modern retelling of [b:Anne of Green Gables|8127|Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1)|L.M. Montgomery|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1615094578l/8127._SY75_.jpg|3464264], and I was definitely here for it. I loved the updates they made with the robotics club, and the chocolates being filled with cordial. I'll admit I was a little sad about the Gilbert ending, because I've always loved that relationship, but I can totally see why the other relationship works as well. Also I'm never sad when Matthew gets to live, especially since these versions of the characters seem younger and have access to modern medicine.

As someone who was obsessed with the LM Montgomery series as a kid, my reading of this retelling could have been really disappointing. Instead, it was sweet, modernized in believable and effective ways, and I wound up loving its smart homage to the classic source material. Bravo!
