tw/ review pesimista

The dystopian future he's created, the detail in which he describes the world and what led to it's current state. The description of the systematic destruction of culture, language and all forms of freedom is all done soo well, that it's just soo fascinating to read.

It reminds me of the world created by Ray Bradbury in Fahrenheit 451, but the writing here is much easier to follow and far less poetic than the kind used by Ray to describe his world, not that I'm complaining.

Still both great in their own unique ways.

The only negative thing I would like to say is that, the whole romance portion didn't add anything for me.

Infact, it made the midsection of the book a bore to get through, it didn't particularly add much to the larger plot of the story and the relationship itself wasn't really anything that drew you in and got you invested in it.

It was lustful and better describes as a desperate grab for affection from any source you could find. Completely devoid of any romantic feeling whatsoever. You can't just call something like that "love" and expect us to take it at face value.

Which therefore, made the end where he makes a point to argue that he was still not broken, as he hadn't given up his love for her, seem all the more hollow, losing all the impact that such a statement should have ideally had.

I have a bone to pick with EVERY person that has ever recommended this book to me. This book is unnecessarily dragging its point. Some chapters have absolute no relevance for the overall story & The only female character is ATROCIOUS.

I didn’t get the hype.

Oh dear. While there is no doubt this is brilliantly written, structured and themed, I just couldn't give it 5 stars because of how horrible it left me feeling. I suppose being able to evoke an unending atmosphere of paranoia, futility and despair is the sign of a great writer, but the sickening sense of devastation I felt at the end was almost intolerable.
