If you like Teen Wolf (the one on MTV), and you liked Mean Girls. Then you are going to like this light, fun, and slightly campy werewolf YA romance book. I really hate making comparisons, but couldn’t help but seeing the guy from Teen Wolf every time Brandon changed in the book. I find very few YA fiction that is actually honest to how teenagers are. This was one of the most honest ones I have read, and there was more parent action in it than most.

First off we have Celeste, pretty much popular by default. She happens to live on the ‘right side of the tracks’ and befriended the most popular girl in school on their first day of school on the bus. Thus began the elements that shape who Celeste is. Honestly I wasn’t totally impressed with her till I got about 90% through the book. Her whole back and forth train of thought of “I love him, but I won’t be popular anymore and I will let myself centered friends down if I love him,” got a bit out of hand. However, it was how teenagers think. In reality, a teenager would not lose their status over the hot guy, if he doesn’t live in the right place.

I really hated her friends. They were so dominantly mean, and they used her like a puppet. They said that she was a puppet to everyone else but honestly they were like “You don’t want to go there do you Celeste.” When she finally stood up to them I was like “About time!” So, if I am being honest, the book was great because the friend dynamic was brilliant. Brandon I totally enjoyed, because he had a great reaction to becoming a werewolf. “Lock me in my room and unlock it at dawn.” Smart teenager! I sort of knew from the beginning however that the ‘psychic’ was trying to just get video of Brandon to sell. You could smell it all over her. She was totally suspicious.

In the end it was a book that I thought was a quick, light read. It won’t give teenagers any worse ideas about how to be, other than how teenagers already are. It isn’t intense and dramatic. It is just fun. I would let my daughter as young as 12 read it. There is no sexual content, and if you daughter wants the chance to dive into some YA Paranormal I highly suggest this book. I think it is a bit too soft for most adult readers to enjoy, however.

Maybe a 2.5. I'm not gonna lie; I found the writing painful most of the time and it was very frustrating for me to attempt to read.

At Celeste Parker’s school, people have clear divisions of prejudice based where they live. It’s the wealthy Eastsiders versus the poor to average Westsiders. Celeste is on the Eastside, but she tries to be nice to everyone. All of her friends are popular and from the Eastside. She’s dating Nash, the jock superstar of their school.

One day, there school gets a new student, Brandon Maddox. She thinks he could have been popular, if he hadn’t been born to the wrong side of town. Celeste is drawn to him, but knows that her friends would disapprove. Her best girlfriends make a dare with their boyfriends that they will go to the Westside and get their fortunes told.

Celeste’s friends get simple readings, while Celeste gets a warning to stay away from the woods. She ends up walking home and runs into several wolves. To her relief, Brandon comes to her rescue but gets injured. Celeste starts to develop even more feelings for him, but doesn’t let her friends know.

Brandon is changing, and people claim to see a werewolf. Is Brandon dangerous?

I really liked that Celeste worked in the nursing home and that she was nice to everyone. I didn’t like that she stayed with Nash as long as she did. Nash definitely wasn’t attentive and expected Celeste to do the things he wanted. I did like Brandon, though. I didn’t like how people treated Westsiders and didn’t like any of Celeste friends.
This book is definitely more geared towards preteens to younger teens.

I know Ellen probably tamed how werewolves changed because of this, but I didn’t like that part. Overall, this was a good read.

I have heard a lot of people say that they don't like this book, but I actually really liked it. More so, I think, than I like Vampire Kisses.

From the author of the acclaimed Vampire Kisses series, this didn't disappoint. I suspect from the way it ended that she will continue in the tradition of Vampire Kisses and make this a series or at the very least I do expect a sequel. The book is chock full of generic young adult angst of fitting in, liking people outside of your clique, the strains of young adult friendships and being oneself. The characters are, as typical for the author, compelling teens in a world of the paranormal. Although in contrast to Raven from the Vampire Kisses series I find that Celeste's immediate acceptance of Brandon's condition is surprising since she has no real background in love of the paranormal, unlike Raven whose whole life has practically been filed with her love of vampires. Overall I liked it though and will prolly read the sequel when it comes out.
