I will keep it short...

The animation was phenomenal and the very few short stories that I read where fantastic but to me it was a little too much. I should have read the description before jumping into conclusion that this was one main story instead of short stories. I love Kazu Kibuishi with his series, Amulet, and thought the story was going to be about adventure with planes. At first I liked the first story and as I kept reading I realize they were short stories, particularly I do not like short stories so I quit reading it. I usually don't do this but I realize there was a new short story after every 2 or 4 pages. I can't handle it but otherwise it was fabulous work on the writers and illustrators!

Compilation of several different 'comics' by a variety of authors & illustrators. Beautifully done, with some amazing stories.

Complete mixed bag here. The art is almost all amazing and really well done, too bad some of the stories really fall flat.

Oh man, I was so disappointed with this.

This graphic novel has been on my radar for a few years now and has made it on and off various wishlists. When I spotted it at a used bookstore I decided to pick it up! I have really been loving graphic novels lately and I find art styles so crucial to the reading experience that I thought this would be a great idea to sample different authors and art styles. As you can probably tell, it didn't go well.

I can't think of a single story within this anthology that I actually liked. I'm not sure if I missed the memo here, but many (if not all) of them seemed to be snippets taken from pre-existing stories (especially Kazu Kibuishi's own Copper, which finds its way into the anthology twice). This could have been great if had been done well, but in my opinion, it was not. I was often left confused and frustrated at the end of each story rather than intrigued.

Unfortunately, I will not be continuing this series unless I find subsequent volumes for extremely low prices or if they are available in my library! Nevertheless, I think this volume and series are still worth a go if you are interested but it just didn't work for me!

This was just meh for me. I didn’t feel much attachment to it. There were some stories that were ok and enjoyable and some others I didn’t really care for. Some other stories I wished had been longer. The art style in some were really beautiful.
This felt like going to a gallery and just seeing different art pieces and not feeling much coming out of it. I guess this anthology just wasn’t for me. I don’t know. I kinda feel like this was useless to me, but it’s a cool book and I 100% respect the work these authors/artists put into each of these short graphic novels.

I love storytelling through graphic art and was fairly excited to dive into this compilation of up-and-coming artists. Like other readers, I found the volume to be a mixed bag. I loved the theme "flight" and enjoyed the creative manner in which some of the artists worked with it. However, I found one nagging problem with most of the stories - lack of narrative development. Of the 24 stories, I felt that two ([a:Jake Parker|51668|Jake Parker|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg]'s "Hugo Earheart" and "The Bowl" by [a:Clio Chiang|150815|Clio Chiang|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg]) stood head and shoulders above the rest, succeeding both in narrative and in art work. There were a few - particularly [a:Jen Wang|1557381|Jen Wang|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1283470701p2/1557381.jpg]'s "Paper and String;" [a:Jacob Magraw-Mickelson]'s "Dummy Brother;" and [a:Chris Applehan]'s untitled - that I really enjoyed for the impressive artwork but not so much the stories. "Taj Majal" by [a:Neil Babra|970679|Neil Babra|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg]; [a:Enrico Casarosa|133571|Enrico Casarosa|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg]'s "Air and Water;" and [a:Bengal|150821|Bengal|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg]'s "Formidable" seem unfinished and left me wanting more. [a:Catia Chien]'s two submissions, "Fall" and "Tumbleweed" are beautifully rendered vignettes. I was suprised by how much I liked both "Outside My Window" and "Beneath the Leaves: Jump" by [a:Khang Le|191599|Khang Le|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-U-50x66.jpg] and [a:Rad Sechrist], respectively; I give both stories props for being sorta cutesy but still managing to win me over. And I give special mention to [a:Joel Carroll|8164|Lewis Carroll|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1192735053p2/8164.jpg]'s "Wing" because it reminded me in a good way of the original (dialogue-less) Aeon Flux - before they ruined it with words. That's slightly over half that interested me in one way or another, which is not to say that the others were bad, but they didn't impress me in any sort of way. As a final note, I will add that [a:Scott McCloud|33907|Scott McCloud|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1231113775p2/33907.jpg]'s afterword is pretty lame, though I get what he was trying to do - lauding the new generation for their innovative ways of coming together, using new mediums to work with old mediums, gender balance, and diversity. I'm glad I picked it up, but I would probably be hard pressed to peruse subsequent volumes unless one just happened to come my way. I think fans of sequential art will appreciate it more overall than people who don't consider comics legitimate artistry for adults.

Found out about this collection because a number of my favorite webcomic artists have participated. Really looking forward to reading more of the series.
