Breaking Away by Toni Aleo

I’m confused as to how this has such a high rating. I didn’t like any of the characters; Claire was the only one I’d give even a little bit of a pass to. I feel like at this point, I should have some connection to the characters, but I don’t. None of them have shown me great qualities.

Maybe it’s because I haven’t gotten far enough along in the book, but how is everyone raving about Phillip? He’s honestly a dick. The way he talks about women and sex? Likes he’s owed something? Not it for me. This is the line that finally convinced me to give up:
“He gave her countless orgasms, made sure she was good and fucked before he left, and she couldn’t help him out? What the hell?”
Honestly, Phillip can get fucked. Let’s add this in to the fact he promised his niece he wouldn’t jeopardize her relationship with Reese by hooking up with her, but he did it anyway. He’s selfish and you won’t change my mind.

Reese was whatever. She’s hung up on her ex and will never settle down. Cool. I don’t mind this trope at all, but does it need to be repeated every 5 seconds?

Overall, this was my first book by this author, and I think it will be my last. I’m not a fan of the writing style, and if all the MCs are like Phillip and Reese, I’m not interested.

Ok, don't throw anything at me, but….I haven't read the other books in the series. I know, I know, I'm a horrible person!! BUT, I won them all and just haven't had time and after talking to Toni I really wanted to support her new book and be part of the blog pimping (Toni is fabulous and the writing is outstanding!)...so I had to start with Phillip's book. Honestly, I can't complain about this. Yes, I did see a few things that are spoilers from the other books, but that won't deter me from reading them! Phillip has custody of his 16 year old niece and she's not happy about it. She's determined to put him through hell for leaving her and he's hell bent on taking care of her and getting her trust back.
We see a lot of the Assassin's family in this book and I love that! Reese is known as the "man-eating bitch" but we learn that's not actually the case. She's been hurt. Badly. And, she's not looking for love again. But, she sees Phillip and although they know each other there is a strong spark between them. Phillips is drawn to her even knowing her reputation and he wants her very badly! Their chemistry is off the charts and the sex is so hot!! I love their easy conversations and I really love Phillip. Really love him! He's funny, hot, sexy, stubborn, mouthy(I LOVED everything that came out of his mouth) and did I say sexy? Yum. It was also refreshing to see the man know what he wants and go after it. He never got scared and ran. Reese discovers that Claire is an amazingly talented dancer and they form an instant bond. We get to see the soft side of Reese with the way she begins to love Claire. I was very nervous that this wasn't going to end well! I laughed out loud (I messaged Toni more than a few times) and I cried. Sobbed. Is it possible to recover from heartbreak that leaves you so empty that you can't even imagine that someone could ever love you? Can you leave the past behind and trust those who claim to love you. How long will it take for you to decide? If you wait too long you could lose everything.

"Phillip has enough to worry about. He doesn't have time to have his heart broken by my man-eating twin," Piper teased. Reese faked a hurt look as she said ,"Hey, I make sure they are satisfied before I feed!"

Even though she was super sexy, he knew with one glance that she was a ball buster. Since he loved his balls very much, he tended to stay away.

She had no clue who the guy was, but she wanted to know him naked.

"I watch you, all the time. I have never wanted someone the way I want you."

He was a pussy killer, that's all there was to it.

"If you say last time, I'm going to poke you in the face with my dick," he warned, a playful glint in his eyes.

He knew it was worth it. Reese was meant for him. Like the way a stick was meant for a puck. The way skates were meant for the ice. It was natural, perfect even.

"We gotta get out of here before I set up a tent in here and never leave. You don't know how many guys I saw with tattoos and One Direction hair as I walked in here. Trouble, they are al trouble. Stay away, Claire!"

Ok so I have audio-booked em all (the series) and this was my least favourite. I think because I just didn't like Reese. I totally got the story and why she was the way she was and he was the way he was. And I loved the interaction with Claire from both of them but for me I think Reese just killed the book for me. Now this could all change if I decide to re listen like it did for Blue lines. How I didn't like Erik but then re listening I liked him. Heck I spend enough on the Audio versions it’s a given I will re listen so yeah I guess for me Reese gave me mixed messages about the book but I did enjoy it too. I know confusing but if you have read the rest of the series you will like this book regardless if it was your favorite or not because we got to see everyone again in it and that makes up for Reese in my opinion lol. Now I want to see Claire get a book with the Rookie yummy sounds like that would be interesting. Like a few years from this one. Cross my fingers. :)

Yessss!!! Phillip and Reese!

Reese is the bitch that we all thought we should hate! But, who doesn't love a girl that takes no shit!

Phillip was not a one woman man but now he wants to belong to two. (Not how you are thinking, dirty mind)

This one will tug at your heart strings!

Not much of a plot.  Weak sentence structure.  One dimensional characters

Another hot and sexy hockey read from Toni. I was super pumped about this book coming out and I was NOT disappointed. The "relationship" between Phillip and Reese was smoking hot and turned into more than either of them expected. LOVED this amazing read in the Assassins series.

Loved me this book sooooo hard! I love the feistiness of Reese and the multiple sides of Philip. I was so annoyed with Claire in the beginning and grew to love her as she grew to love her Uncle Philip. There were parts I laughed and cried seeing the way Reese and Philip argued, fought, made up, grew, fought, and so on. This is now my second favorite of the series following close being Audrey and Tate!!

I honestly can't pick a favorite book in this series! I love how all the characters from the previous books play such a large part in each of the following books. I really need to take a break from reading these so I can study for my finals but I just can't put these books down! Definitely one of my new favorite series
