Will not be continuing the series. I wasn’t interested in the mystery, I didn’t believe the characters, and I’m not even that interested in their backstory or romance. I wanted to like the series, but unfortunately I do not

I really enjoyed this one! I think the murder mystery aspect was really fun and though there were parts that were a little slow, I still ended up liking the book as a whole. There were also some great developments in Veronica and Stoker's relationship which I loved.

I don't know how I've read one book in this series and its already become a comfort read. Veronica and Stoker are a great duo. The plots are not super twisty or anything but thats not really the point. They are kind of just historical cozy mystery romance.

I really loved this one, in fact I think I even liked it better than the first one (The Curious Beginning). I love the writing, I love the dialogue, I love the historical accuracy faultlessly coupled with a bright energy that makes the story so fresh. Veronica Speedwell and her naturalist colleague, Stoker, are asked to investigate a murder that takes place within a community of artists. They do so, and everything becomes complicated. Veronica's motivation to succeed consists of not only her own curiosity, but becomes muddied with her own relationship to England's most exalted family. I will eagerly await the third Veronica Speedwell book. I think my code name is Syringa Lilac!
