Wonderful look at a crusading but flawed woman who worked so hard to bring equity to the justice system in early 20th century NY.

It had the potential to be so interesting, but the writing just seemed scattered.

Did not make it past the first 50 pages. Wanted to love it, but it just wasn’t doing it for me.

I really wanted to like this book! I was so excited by the concept of it, but the story I came for got lost. It was also hard to follow from the past to present day and especially after they found Ruth. Perhaps the most upsetting part was the fact that this was a true story and all the shitty things Grace had to fight against because people and society sucked at that point. And I think it was just so disheartening that Grace who was such a prominent figure in solving the case of Ruth and countless others could simply fade from existence. I know that I didn't have a clue of who she was, but I am thankful that I got to learn her story!

Interesting material, but I didn't like the writing that much. Long winded and too much jumping back and forth in time.

please note that i am rating the book based on the writing, and not the life of grace humiston.
i wished the times were more fair for this woman. she deserved to be heard, and her inspiring stories to be told.
her story was told however, but weaved in and out amongst other things in this book.
it seemed to me as if this book was divided into two things: 1) grace humiston (as a memoir) 2) ruth cruger case.
i think it would’ve benefited more if it were to be written just as that, so that everything would’ve gone in chronological order and you wouldn’t have to keep flipped the pages to refer.
also the title of the book is very inappropriate. what was the use of the prologue about sir arthur conan doyle?! this book title felt like click bait. it should’ve been titled grace humiston: a memoir.
the author did a lot of research. which was amazing. but ultimately his execution of the book was what let it down.
