My 6P review

This was basically a written episode of Criminal Minds and CSI. This is an in-depth FBI serial killer procedural novel. The author had obviously done her research.

The premise of the story was brilliant. Who doesn’t want to find a chamber full of dead bodies with a room for moe? The execution was lacking though.

The characters were awful. Brandon was wanting his marriage to work, and yet he’s off bonking Paige. His wife leaves him after turning off her phone but then wants him to come home for dinner. This added nothing to the story. The other characters were very two dimensional and very stereo typical. Jack’s constant need for a cigarette, or holding an unlit one in his mouth or patting his pockets trying to locate one, was very frustrating. Who care. Get on with the plot.

Set in Kentucky, I only had a small sense of being there. I would have liked more information on the setting.

The basis for the killings was centred around the coinherence symbol, which was never really explained, so I had to google it.

Not really sure how to rate this one. It plodded through the story and the ending just happened. 2.5⭐️

Enjoyed this book very much, the characters and the plot. Ending seemed a bit abrupt but maybe that's just me.

So glad I don't have to hear about Jack "reaching for his cigarette packet" or "bobbing a cigarette" on his lips or "flicking his lighter" again.

Story had potential but the writing was confused and messy and sometimes difficult to follow, and then suddenly the mystery was solved, book over, job done. Readable but not entirely enjoyable.

It's a fun thriller with the requisite personally conflicted new agent, gruff senior agent, a love interest and a deadly serial killer with his own network. As an afternoon read this book is engaging, but during the book I kept on seeing this as a longer episode of "Criminal Minds" or similar such show. Almost like a pilot of a new Television Series.

I found the chapters about the serial killer were written well, but the chapters with the POV of the love interest were cliched as were the interactions between the lovers. It feels like the writer was afraid to push past the stereotypical interaction.

Don't expect this book to be anything but a fast-paced TV series novelization and you'll enjoy it for the entertainment it provides.
