A very cool concept book that attempts to "show" sighted people who they might imagine colors if they couldn't see. An all black book with amazing "surface drawings" of water, grass, strawberries... with braille and lovely descriptions. A great book to share with a child in your lap.

This is a little different than a traditional color book; each page describes the colors like a blind person would know them by using words and raised pictures to create another idea of what a color is. The entire book, as the title would have you think, is black with white text; the illustrations are raised to go with the Braille translation on each page. This book not only demonstrates a new way of looking at color, but also creates a genuine appreciation for how someone else might “see” the world. I was impressed with how far this book reached beyond a traditional colors book to connect people of different communities. I feel like this would be a great book to start a conversation about what it means to see the world in different ways.

Neat book that includes a raised picture for readers to feel as they read the lines of the story.
