Not too wild about this compilation. Perhaps because of the short story context, I didn't sense the connection between the characters. There was little room for building up the tension in the relationships. As for the Hamilton story, I am not that far along in the Anita Blake series, so there were quite a few spoilers and some confusion on my part. I would, however, still seek out lengthier novels by R. York and M.J. Davidson (whom has a great sense of humor!). And as always, I will continue plugging away happily at Hamilton's novels.

This is a repeat from what is already in one book. It is when Anita is Larry's wedding and what happens between at the wedding and in the parking lot after. So if you read the Anita Blake series, you don't need to be picking this up, but I did like 2 other stories in it. There are 3 more stories by Mary Janice Davidson, Eileen Wilks, Rebecca York. I am finding I am not a fan of Mary Janice Davidson and that is because both short stories I have read by her - the men were not so smart men. I want a smart man so reading about an intelligent woman being with someone who isn't intelligent tends make me lose interest. But I really enjoyed the stories by Elieen Wilks and Rebecca York. These book are made to get you interested in other authors and this time it really did as I am putting on my to-read list books by both those authors.
Eileen Wilks' story is about a woman named Molly, who is a succubus and this is a little short story in a larger series. A man lands at Molly's feet that isn't entirely human with wounds on him. She takes him to her place to help him. And then their story begins trying to figure out how he got there as he can't remember many things about where he is from, who he is or why he came there.
Rebecca York's story is about a werewolf and a blind woman that reads tarot and has different kind of sight. Grant Marshall is a werewolf and searching for his wife's murder. He lands in small town at a Bed and Breakfast of a woman who is blind and does tarot readings. Their stories are told while trying to find the man that murdered Grant's wife. It is a short story based on a series by Rebecca York

I gave up reading this book because instead of being a series of short stories it appears to just be the start of a book by each author. If I wanted to read those I'd read the full book, not just several chapters. Thankfully I got this from a book swap so it didn't cost me a penny.

I really enjoyed the Laurell K Hamilton short story, it was amazing! I also likes Eileen Wilks short story it was a new take that I needed on some paranormal genre. It was a fun read there could have been better stories I did like it! I would read it again, i am glad that I was able to read it.

Four stories by four different authors. Overall, the book was a one star for me. The individual story that I did read (and enjoyed), I would rate 3.5 stars. It is "Originally Human" by Eileen Wilks, and can be downloaded separately as an e-book.
1. Anita Blake series that I read several books of, until it devolved into porn. This story is written WELL after I gave up on the series; skipped
2. Davidson; Vampire porn--skipped
3. Wilks' well done short story that I reviewed (link above)
4. York; skipped after reading a review of her series "when she enters the house she find him naked and unconscious with an infected gun wound and decided to stay and take care of him. She knows there is something different about him but she can't deny that she has a strange attractions to him"
Ew...when the main character is lusting after a stranger who has a festering gunshot wound, I tend to think this isn't the type of book for me.

I enjoyed this anthology - four solid stories with a bit of erotic spice and a mix of supers, magicks, mystery and humor.
Incubus Dreams, from which Blood On My Lips was taken, was the first Anita Blake book I ever read and I think its a good story to introduce the tone that the later books by Hamiltion take. This focus's on Anitas struggle to control the Ardeur and find a place in her life for Nathaniel.
Dead Girls Don't Dance was entertaining, I enjoy Davidson's humor and this story was fun to read. There is a glimpse of Queen Betsy and Sinclair at the end but really it is it's own story.
Originally Human was intriguing, I liked her style and the story itself was strong. I havan't read anything by Wilkes but I am looking to do so now.
Burning Moon was OK, a neat little mystery but didn't really grab me.

Dead Girls Don't Dance by MaryJanice Davidson 7/22/2014
So read this novella as part of the Queen Betsy series. It fits right in after book one. I read another novella that was probably between 4 and 5, that I think was just a little better than this in story line. This had a very simple storyline and followed it. Andrea decides to go to the new vampire queen since she is being called. She thinks it could only end badly but has decided life isn't worth it. An old college friend meets her, figures out she is a vampire, and decides to tag along for the trip. It is a fun read but nothing to in-depth.
