One of the most beautiful and meaningful stories I have ever read. Simple, sincere, sweet. Fabulous art, different from the usual comic book or graphic novel. Strong message regarding love, relationships, social status and life in general. I think this is what touched me more: how natural and beautiful everything was described, because no matter the bigotry and hatred that so plague our society, true love is indeed natural and beautiful, regardless of the gender of the people involved. I really hope the movie does this graphic novel justice and represents the relationship between Clem and Emma as it truly is.

Lastly, I will mention that I am very excited that a movie based on a graphic novel won an esteemed prize. This is, in my opinion, very important and a sign that times in society, human rights, politics and entertainment are finally changing.

Ik wou het boek gelezen hebben voor ik de film zag. Missie geslaagd, het boek was niet meteen geheel mijn ding, nu nog de film bekijken.

The best line in this graphic novel is: "Only love will save the world. Why would I be ashamed to love?"
I am rating this a three star not because of graphic or story quality- but because the content was a hard read for me on an emotional level. It is a very dark story, with a dark and sadly realistic ending.
My advice if choosing to pick this up as a read is to be aware that it hits many triggers going in, and satisfies none of the 'complete' or 'warm' feeling I search for in my favorite literary creations.
That said, this should be a cry to the world to stop being such harsh critics of love. This highlights a harsh reality LGBTQ+ kids face for being 'different', and still, no matter how many times I am faced with this reality, it makes it no easier to stomach.
