My first Hosseini book and as it's not what I usually read, I found it hard to get into initially but after a hundred pages (or once other characters were introduced), I quite liked it. I most liked the way Hosseini opened my eyes to the recent history and experiences of the people of Afghanistan and based on this book I would probably go back and read his earlier novels. It didn't make a 5-star read for me simply because it tipped into novel-by-numbers, melodramatic blockbuster a little too often. But, yes, I would recommend it as a lovely read by a great storyteller.

I loved the theme and the stories. This one was just hard to follow because Hosseini kept going back and forth in time and at times I couldn't figure it out and kept feeling like I wasn't paying enough attention and must have missed something. It is one that would need to be reread again I think and I would because the story was so rich.

4 stars. my least favourite out of Hosseini's trio, yet it is still Khaled Hosseini, so what could've i expected but a harrowing, tragic tale intercepted by moments of human love and hope? And the Mountains Echoed does that beautifully, through a fluid narrative compromised of multiple perspectives and lifetimes' worth of events. i did find that i got a bit too lost in the sauce with all of the differing characters going on all at once; it's very realistic on Hosseini's behalf, but maybe difficult to follow in the way it is written together as a complete novel. the moral questions raised by each characters' actions and the impact it has on others is something that lingers with you long after finishing this book.

Just didn't reach for it. There are too many books that keep meninterested to struggle through one that doesn't. I found it very slow.

Hosseini his books are always a mox of history, Afghanistan, poetry and heartbreaking love stories. ❤️ always manages to make me cry.

Gotta admit. This one was less groundbreaking than the kite runner, but still very pleased to have read it.

Ok so the kite runner and a thousand splendid suns are two of my favourite books to date. So i had expected something similar from this book to completely wreck me, but that wasn't the case. This book took a different route. It was based on Afghanistan yes but it was more like short stories of multiple people connected in a way? My favourite of the book has to be Pari’s and Abdulla’s. The book started and ended with their story. It completely broke my heart. So yeah that was my favourite. The rest of the book didn't live up to my expectations.
