*sigh.* I was going to rank this 4 stars, but had to admit it was a 5. So much of this resonated with me, yet so much of me is still not ready to have the fierce conversations I need to have. But the book made me realize this.

Prepare for an in-your-face gut check. The message is...quit sleepwalking and say what needs to be said....here is why, and here is how.

I'm not sure I can recommend this enough. Whether personal or business, working through communication skills should always be at the height of one's list of personal growth areas to work on. Susan Scott brings together a great many excellent points from psychology, sociology, and communication, combining them with personal stories that make each point particularly helpful. This is not one to read and put away, but to read again and again with study and reflection.

Full disclosure: this was a mandatory read for all employees at my work.

It feels like the author thought of two catch phrases and wrote a book around them. There are lots of stories about the author being a successful "fierce" communicator, and lots of advice that is really just basic communication competency, like listening when someone is talking to you. Perhaps revelatory for CEOs and managers (the target demographic), but as an employee I found nothing useful here.

This book challenged me to have better conversations. I really appreciated the reinforcement through assignments in the book as well as the checklists to make sure everything is understood. This book will help me be a more effective communicator.

Very good recommendations and process for starting and maintaining deeper levels of conversations... mixed in with some feel good ideas to kick back and feel good about yourself.

The most practical and inspiring guide to engaging in authentic conversation I have ever read! For home or work, this book is a resource of action steps and guiding questions to communicate successfully in hard situations.

An interesting, if somewhat idealistic, approach to having more effective, productive conversations at home and in the workplace. I like her ideas, but I'm skeptical about how to implement them.
